Some small progress at the weekend,
Doors added to the maindeck level.
detail going on the interior, including the first of the two prominent deformed pipes.
The second pipe in place, not a perfect match for the photographs, but I think they work.
A few more bits and pieces and she will be ready for some paint.

etched doors fitted to the real of B gundeck.
Details fitted to the exterior of the bridge.
Planning out the base.
The forward superstructure test fitted.

Nice work standing those ladders away from the wall. Sometimes that detail gets over looked when a modeler adds replacement ladders.

I have found a sharp chisel blade, a little care, and a light sand, and it is not too troublesome, and gives the etched ladders more relief.

This is the biggest bit of Scratchbuilding I have done so far, the biggest lessons I have learned are take it slowly, and it is not a disaster if you have to do a bit of it again.

Very small update from last weekend.
I found some old expanded polystyrene tile, started cutting to shape for the base.
Next, get stuck down, and find somethings to make the jetty and the groundwork out of.

Getting the base built.
The basic shape of the sea and the jetty stuck down.
there is a piece of groundwork to go yet.
The sea covered with foil. (Well the whole base).
Trimmed up with the Eskimo in place.
might need to file a couple of mill off the lowest point of the hull to get her to sit right.

Looking at the photo of the Eskimo sitting on the base with the front of the ship sitting higher, I was wondering did the real Eskimo sit like that at the dock. She must have lost a lot of weight in the front and with the engines in the back the front must have been barely sitting in the water. I have only seen a picture of her sitting at the dock taken from the dock facing the ship.

Good point Mark,
I think she is sitting a little high too. I reckon in scale about 3-4mm.
I am hoping to get some time this weekend, will take shots from the jetty side as I trim out & sand.

looks a bit too high, also the jetty looks a bit to high out of the water
another layer of foil on top of PVA, and the start of the structure for the side of the fjord..
