Hi Guys,
Well the Lighthouse has arrived, even more amazing in the flesh so to speak.
Some progress on the Genny and some RN Figs I've been working on.

RN Sailors and WREN

Comments and suggestions welcome. The chap on the left will be holding a pipe.
Cheers

Suggestions? none -except that i wish you use a strong paper for having a flat surface instead of a tablecloth as a background for your pics :-)
But comments, yeah, it really looks pretty good! The generator is convincing and man, i always loved that girly fig

maybe you could put some close-up of the figs? I usually tend to think from siome of your other works that you *could* just put a little bit of extra work into them before gluing them in your dios

Anyway, I wonder how much more updates there will be before we finally see a bit of sea!!
btw, did you received Rui's seagul?

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the feedback.
Kenny, what are you up to at the moment? Are you going to do another LCM?
jba, how's the sunken boat? Hmmm, more time on my figs lol, lol - I spend hours just getting them to this stage

.
Wot - you don't like my blue T-shirt

. You think a stronger colour would be better, and you're no doubt right but these are just progress pics and setting up outside is a real pain.
Re figure size, my camera will only capture figures if there is an object in the background. I've tried various ways of trying to get close ups all of which have been a complete waste of time lol, lol. No room for a 'studio' too many kits
Thanks for the feedback guys, I'll go back to the drawing board on the figures.
Cheers
Al

hey Al, about your blue background, the colour is fine as it is -too dark could cast some bad shadows, i was merely thinking of something that doesn't carry any texture, not textile stuff, but more paper, like those 2 feet long papers you can find in art shops and that i use myself. You don't want the viewer of the picture to be distracted by some extra stuff that doesn't belong to your model.
Actually, i was asking for some bigger pics, because i thought those figs were *better* painted than some of the previous ones

Don't worry, i spend between 5 and 8 hours painting each fig in my dioramas but eh, i don't cram 50 guys in a dio like you are doing
As for my boat, it's looking fine, the diorama should be finished in the next 2 weeks but it's less than 8x 6 inches long

Hi jba,
OK I'll invest in some blue paper, Skipper did suggest this way back when but I've never quite gotten around to it
Re the figure painting, I think they are getting better too although sometimes they work and sometimes not but most get re-visited several times and will probably be re-visited again before they finally find a home.
I'm fairly happy with the ones on the boats but have a lot of work to do on some of the infantry althoug I got quite a bit done a few months ago. The painting is one big experiment which is part of the fun and hornet/ultracast heads make a lot of difference too.
Glad the boat is coming along, look forward to seeing some updates.
Enjoy the remainder of the weekend before work tomorrow. Lucky for me I've got a week off

, so might get a bit more done on the Tilly and the Lighthouse plus some civilians I'm working on.
All the best.

Hi Guys,
Paint brush is out and I've done a little on the Lighthouse.
Dome and Observation Platform - start of work.

Early days but I have to say that having now started to get into the structure up close it really is a master piece. It's hard to understand it until you get up close and personal and then the imagination and skill shine through. Thanks again Glenn, it a real gem.
I'd be very grateful if someone would rename this post as 'Pier 51 Lighthouse Painting' and I'll stick all further pictures in one place which makes sense to me.
Cheers
Al
BTW what happend to the little tab beside topics that allowed one to block out all the stuff that your not interested in?

That Generator looks incredible Alan, the rust is beautifully done.
I haven't seen that WREN figgie before but it really is nice. Very life like and "cutish".

Hi Murdo,
How's things? Haven't see you around for a while, hope you're settled in now.
The WREN is a Hornet figure, white metal. Have you checked out Jakeri Minatures? Some good tankers, both NWE and Western Desert. Keep an eye on them I was talking with Pete and he has some interesting figures planned for the future. Sufice to say I'm a happy boy

.
The Genny is like the rest of Glenn's build a class bit of work.
Cheers
Al

That's looking very good Alan. Maybe the gentleman should be coming to the aide of the young lady?

Hi Kennny,
Just in case you are wondering!!!

In the long term she's destined for the pier as a courier from the Tilly delivering a message.

Alan,
The work so far looks awesome. One question. On the roof of the upper most story of the lighthouse, is roof planks an overlay or is it the roof and the ceiling for the room it covers. The reason I ask (as I watch the pouring rain outside my front door), with the gaps between the boards, It would be awefully damp in the house and eventually end up causing all kinds of water damage to the walls below.

I recognize those kids. Mine are standing next to a Geman mess trailer begging food. Now to spice it up a bit you oughta get that girl in a tub figure and put her inside the lighthouse. I used that one in my 50 figure dio of the retreat out of Czechoslovakia...put her in a little nook with a couple of German guys peering at her.

Hi Kenny,
What can I say after all the build pictures, I'll take it up with the contractor

. However, there is a layer of felt below the boards to keep the rain out!!!!!!
Hi Steve,
Ah Legends figures, very nice. No Germans on this one unless they are prisoners

but keep an eye out round the back of the goods yard or lighthouse
Cheers

Well your brown stones are looking fine even with the flash -I guess you can add some run offs below the wooden section too, I guess you didn't really start to weather the red/white parts but here you should get some fun too!
what's this big Dunkirk book behind the lighthouse?

Just goiong outside to get a few daylight pics. More later.
The red and white was for a bit of fun and to see how it might look. Don't know if I could get away with it but........
The Dunkirk book is 'Fight to the Last Man' by Hugh Seabag-Montefiore, another project I have in mind

. Catch you later, lets how there is no wind!!!!
Any update shots on you project, I must check the forum.
Cheers

Ahoy Alan,
Well you are on your way to creating a MASTERPIECE!
Very, very impressive diorama.
Looks like one will need much time to absorb all the activity going on,
when this dio is finished and of course the details , the paint work etc.
EXCELLENT mate.
Have a nice day and happy modeling,
Joe
