Here is a lonnng overdue update on my K. Survurov.
Here is the BMK brass smokestack. The kit stacks are shorter, but the BMK stack came with a recessed top. I made spacers out of stripstock, and filled out the narrow top with brass sheet. The pipes going up the stacks were made from rod and Tamiya tape strips.
Here the walkways for the lifeboats are seen. The kit gives you some strips of plastic with ramps on each end. I swiped lengths of railing and stairway from my WEM G. Kurfust set.
I still have some touch-up work to do on the walkways.
Here is the anchors with chain swiped from Mikasa...the anchor winches were unrecognizeable...so I cut away most of them and scratchbuilt up the arms and pulleys...
Here she is steaming unfinished through a sea of Das Pronto. I hope I have time enough to make the seas before the campaign is over guys

Hello Jim,
Looking great. I think I will ask Mark for a extenstion for this campaign. Do we need 1 or 2 months to get everyone done?
I still have yet to start mine, I have a "Free Day" tomorrow and will start it then.
Cheers,
Bruce

@Karl- Thanks ..its my first ship...total newbie here when it comes to surface vessels. This is alot of fiddle-dy work...
@ Bruce- Thank you also. I think one or 2 months works for me. I am just lucky that I have time to build this thing daily, or Id NEVER be ready for deadline. Thats no ones fault but mine. I took a "vacation" from her, which in hindsight was a mistake. As I said this is my first ship,so calculating the project timeline completely eluded me.

Sharp looking work, Jim, I like the funnels.
Some progress on the Texas. Gotta get the airbrush out this weekend (fingers crossed) to push this along.

Thanks Martin. I picked up some brass rod at the LHS and Im attempting to make new masts and yardarms.Crossing my fingers and toes here. I have all the runs of railings in place on the center walkways. Gonna try and do the railings for the stairs out of speaker wire.

The masts are being replaced with brass rod ...
The crane arms for the lifeboats were replaced with brass rod and bits of popcan and plastic
The upper crowsnest was sanded down and had the support struts underneath removed ..to be replaced......the lower crowsnest had its floor replaced with plastic stock and was drilled to accept the new mast..

Hello Jim,
Looking Good, Real good. Thanks for the photo's and updates.
@ Hello All,
We have about 30 days to go. I am thinking about letting the campaign keep going for another month unofficially which means I will not bother Mark about changing the end date.
I think I have the authority to do that.
Let me know it that works for everyone.
Cheers,
Bruce

Works for me, Bruce. If I wasnt unemployed right now I wouldnt have the time to devote to this build I know it...its more involved than I anticipated.
I also have a Se5.A I need to get cracking on for a client/freind of mine.....Iv been trying to juggle projects and priorities and am running low on "mojo"...
Will be working on the wheelhouse and foremast today...cheers y'all..

Hi Bruce!
Yes, please let us know if the extension will be official. I'll probably need that extra time to figure out to work the DSLR camera.

Hello All,
I am trying to keep Mark out of doing the extension. With all the hours he is working, I figure any left over should be spent with his family.
So the new end date will be October 1st. That gives all of us 2 months to get done.
I will let Mark know if I need too.
Cheers,
Bruce

Thats a relief..
I added the deckhouse this morning ...opted out of adding tubes and stuff in there cause itll never be seen anyway ....plus lack of time ..
The stuff to go in there that GMM gives in their PE set is good enough I think.
VERY impressed with GMM...its my first time using his stuff...its all I buy now for PE..
I admit to being very aprehensive regarding the rigging of this ship ...I need to go through what references I have to find the anchor points.....theres alot of them. Im used to doing biplanes,so the actual job itself causes no stress..its the referencing..
Im happy with my brass masts though...glad I took the plunge on that ..
The ship has gotten VERRRY heavy to pick up I find ....cool...

Hello All,
@ Mark,
Thanks Mark.
@ Jim,
Sounds like you have got alot done. I have heard that a model is not done till it has the same weight as the builder.
Cheers,
Bruce

Hey Jim!
That pilothouse is well done, indeed. Will be you putting crewmen on there? Having resplendent Tsarist naval officers standing about will really complement the ship.

my goodness...I guess youre RIGHT!..i hadnt even remembered about sourcing a crew for a ship steaming through the ocean.....does anyone have suggestions as to which manufacturer I should select for a crew? Were talking 1:350 scale here ..

Jim, go with the Fujimi Japanese crew figures: they're relatively inexpensive, truly 3-D (unlike photoetch), and have better molding than the surprisingly bad Tamiya figures. And since we're talking 1:350, the national differences in the figures are meaningless.
