The crew is painted and in place(60 figures),the guns have their blastbags on ( made frome milliput)
The ship is basically done now, i just need to rig her, add the davits and netshelves, and do the water effects..

Looking really nice, Jim. I've just completed a large commission, so now I can turn-to and get my pre-dreds done.

Iv got all my construction on the ship complete, all that remains is to rig her and do touch-up... then I move on to water effects.
This is the first time Ive used the White ensign rigging material( spandex thread) and its going to take some getting used to...its really springy...lol
Ive rigged more than my fair share of biplanes, but Iv always used my wifes hair...which has a totally different response. Iv done one side of the rear mast today and Ill try to get more done tomorrow...Im pleased with the flags..they are lead sheet rolled paper thin and painted..

Hello Jim,
Sounds like you are just about done. From what I have seen about your build, I think it would be a winner at the modeling shows.
I know that Mark, Rudi and a few others have used the White Ensign stuff to use as rigging, Are you going to post some Photo's on the stuff your are using? I have never tried to rig a ship and need all the help I can get.
Cheers,
Bruce

Ill do a session this afternoon, and post some pics Bruce. Like I said ...Ive never used this stuff before, and someone will probably chime in and tell us what Im doing wrong..I would certainly welcome any pointers myself...
Gonna hafta really get moving on this .....Question: If I dont completely finish the water effects by deadline,am I disqualified?

Here is the White Ensign Models product for rigging:Lycra thread
I add a wee tag of tamiya tape to help me direct the thread onto the model.

I use my finest tweexers to direct the thread under a railing, and work point-to point, almost like sewing....

and end up with the rigging looking like this. All points recieve a pip of crazy glue to fasten the thread to the model. I intend on using a black magic marker to colour the thread before I dullcote the entire ship ...

Hello Jim,
You will get your ribbon even if you do not do any water effects. I am going to ask Mark to let me give ribbons out even after the end of the campaign to a few of the guys who cannot not get done due to reasons beyond their control( Illness, Injury, etc) I think that is the right thing to do.
Thanks for the photo's and explanation of what you are doing with the rigging. It looks like very intense work.
Cheers,
Bruce

Im glad you used the word "intense"to describe this rigging....I though mabe I was getting soft!

Thats a good idea about the ribbons, as injury and illness should never, in my opinion, count against someone in a situation like this.

Yesterdays rigging session was my second time at it,and my wife reported a full 60 per cent reduction in yells and expeletives eminating from my workshop during my session!..
I must be improving!...more rigging today ..

Hey Jim!

The rigging looks first rate. I started rigging the mainmast on my Repulse and even that modest rig is a challenge.

Looks like my Santiago scene will overshoot the campaign deadline, but I'll submit pics as a feature when it is finally done.

Good work guys.

I know the work on my Chicago has faltered, but that seems to happen a good deal to me.

Looking forward to seeing what everyone gets finished with.

Im so close to finished I can taste it now. All I have to do now is to re-attach a couple of the Davits that broke off while I was rigging, and colour the rigging with a marker ...
Iv started working on my sea effects now,and it looks like a dogs breakfast so far, but Im going to put a translucent coat of blue/grey(more blue) over top of the whole thing to tie everything together ...youre looking at shadows and highlights in these pics.
Im working on the bowcrest wave and Iv used paper. Ill load it with multiple coats of matt medium....hopefully thats the right way to do it ...Im a newbie here..
