Iv had that happen more times than I care to remember, and my wife can attest to the blistering language eminating from my modelling area when it does happen..and yes ..the missing part usually shows up in plain view 2 projects down the road...I usually enlist my wife to help find it as she has an eagle eye ..I call her .."madame inspectuer"

Here goes:
My contribution will be the Oregon and Iowa at Santiago in 1:225. Although my Presier crew figures finally arrived last week, the need to get the 1:125 Samuel B. Roberts prepped for my local IPMS meeting bumped work on the pre-dreds into this week. Work will resume tonight and I hope to have both ships ready for mounting in a few days. Pics to follow before April.

Well, let's see if I can finally get started on this campaign. I'm hoping to build the Niko Texas in 1/700. Here's a few photos, with yesterday's NY Post in the background

I'm going paint her in overall Slate Gray, as she was during the Spanish American War.

HI Martin!
Hooray for the Old Hoo-Doo! If you want to depict her in a Santiago finish, you may want take a look up pics of how the whole squadron weathered in the Cuban sunshine.

I am now pleased to say that I can continue with the Osylabya build thanks to Jim Baumann who looked out his plans for this ship!
The mystery of the boat deck has been sorted and it is interesting to see how near I was with my speculation - quite close........
I continue...........

Hi guys....its been a while since I v posted I know....its also been a while since I worked on my ship...but Im not out of the picture. I think I just needed a "vacation" from it. I kinda hit a spot that dumbfounded me as to how I would best solve it: theres these walkways running bow to stern along the mid part of the ship, and the kit had these nasty thick glops of plastic to represent them. I think im going to replace them with brass for rigidity and then try to find some extra railings somewhere ...mabe swipe some from my Grosser Kurfust kit..the REAL trick is to replicate the stairs at either end of the walkways..once again I think Im going to do some pinching from my Grosser K. kit..I didnt mean to just abandon the campaign guys..Im still in..

Hello Jim,
No problems, We have till September till it ends.
I also am having a problem with my build,
I left the resin kit in the car and it kind of melted/twisted into a simi-ship blob. I have ordered a new kit so I will have to get on my horse to get it done.
Cheers,
Bruce

Hello All,
We have 67 days to go for this campaign. So, How is it going? Got my replacement kit to day.
I am doing the Imperial Russian Battleship Knyaz Suvorov. It was the Flagship of th 2nd Pacific Squadron. I picked this model because it was painted all black except for golden funnels. She was lost fighting in the Russo-Japanese War, going down firing to the end.
I plan to start Saturday, I hope
Cheers,
Bruce

Some updated pictures:
Deck painted
Deck masked and hull painted white
"War Color" (aka Slate) painted over the white
Still needs another light coat of slate on the hull and on the superstructure parts cast in to the deck. I'm then going to lightly sand the hull to bring some of the white through. At least, that's the plan at this point.
Crisply cast little model with a really nice PE set.

Hello Martin,
Looking good, Thanks for the photo's and the update.
I am still trying to figure out how to do the casement guns.
There are about 20 of them for both sides.
Cheers,
Bruce

Hello Bruce..
Working on those little gangways running along the lifeboat area...whew....gonna hafta replace them with old leftover brass fret (being scottish descent I throw NOTHING away!lol)
Painting and highlighting the armaments now. I will add blastbags from Milliput at a later date.
Bruce I drilled out the casement guns and added them before painting the hull and deck. Glued them solid so they wouldnt wiggle about..HTH

I'm pushing to get the Iowa and Oregon ready for photo shoots by August in time to get the images ready for the campaign wrap-up. I've gotten a DSLR, so hopefully I'm on my way to taking discernible pictures!

Hello All,
I am thinking that I might ask for a 1 month extension for this campaign.
What do all of you think? I am running into "Out of time syndrome".
Let me know it you want the extension.
Cheers,
Bruce

Im all for it Bruce! I realized to my HORROR on Monday that the campaign ends Sept 1st...I thought I had till Oct 31!!!..Iv been running like mad to ensure I finish on time.Last night I found some ref material I stashed in my computer showing Ill have to scratch up some parts too.... I guess Im a little unsure of how to time out this project as it is literally my first ship model ever..not counting U-boats..theyre subs .My first campaign also.I cast my vote for extension..

I completed the funnels and am focusing on those little walkways now. They just have ramps on the ends instead of stairs, and I also need to attach the railings and mask/paint them properly ...

Define "half decent priced". There are two 1/700 Royal Oak kits in resin, WSW and Samek. The Samek kit is reputed to be both more accurate and "better". However, it is out of production. The WSW kit lists for $115 on Pacific Front Hobbies.
There is also the old 1/500 scale R class kit made by Frog, now marketed by Eastern Express. Off the top of my head, I don't remember which kit it most accurately represents.
