Dear All,

Let's see if I can work out how to put messages on the board! After a little while lurking on the site and chatting to Peter Ffulgoney and Rui at Telford last weekend, I've decided to jump in and start playing!

I'm going to do the Combrig USS Chicago , same as Jim Adams. That will give me an excuse to take it out of my stash where it's been hiding for a couple of years. Also, I've never actually done a white hull before, so that should be interesting too.

I had previously thought about trying to back date it to the three masted, fully rigged configuration, but there seem to have been some armament changes that I have no info about, so I'll pass on that idea.

No photos as yet, as I'm just sitting at work at the moment, but they'd be exactly the same as on the previous page, so not a lot of point.

Right, let's hit the "yes" key and see if it goes on OK.

Regards,

David.

Hi David,
Welcome to Model Shipwrights, mate!

Glad to have you both onsite and in the campaign, if you have any site questions or problems, please feel free to ask! Looking forward to seeing your work!!

David,

Welcome to MSW.

Glad you decided to stop by. It will be nice to see another Chicago being built. Are you going to paint her in the white scheme or gray?

White and buff definitely. Grey on a ship like that is just sooooo boring!

David

Hi David!

Welcome aboard! One good thing about the campaign program is it certainly offers variety (now if I can only get that camera to cooperate ) and a chance to see work the world over.

I'll check my references on the Chicago--which part of her career does your kit represent?

Hey Jim!

That's quite a shipyard you've got going up there! I like work scenes that show recent activity, it's so "real".

Hi Guys,
I'm posting this up for our mate Peter Fulgoney...his replies and images to follow:
~Gunny

Peter states:

WOW, 5 points to everybody - I can do that you know.

David, have a look at Bobby C's work - go to the Combrig site, it's there (white navy style).

Yes, taking a hi res picture of the ship does bring out all the eroors and roughness - all the better to correct it.

And, Rob K and I use WEM tyre black for the black hull - have a go and you'll see what I mean - worth a try.

So, also worth a try is the new MIG Filter which I'm using as a primer for the white paint job.

To recap, it's Osylabya in white in a frozen sea, and therefore a contrast of whites - pure through to manmade/painted. I have a picture to base the project on, and I've coloured in the instructions as well. And so, on goes the filter as shown, including the pe - looks like a good primer to get started - here we go again.

Well, this campaign surely seems to have caught the attention of a great deal of people.

So far everyone seems to be really energetic and full of zeal on the builds.

My shipyard is getting relocated this weekend, so maybe, just maybe something can be done.

Hi Bruce!

A pre-dred sequel in 2010 is a great idea!

That's quite a production load you're working on, too.

Attention USS CHicago builders.

I need some close up pictures of the ship. There are a few questions about parts and stairway locations.

Any help in that area would be very helpful. Only spent about 30 minutes on her so far, but she is going to be a challenge.

A little Borodino update...deck-work, and fiddly bits time!

Most of these deckhouses will be unseen due to the next deck level...

Probably won't get much done at the bench til after the holidays, but we'll see!!
I continue...

Looks great Mark.

I hope to get started on my Mikasa project within a couple of weeks. Only problem is that, at the moment the only references I have on her, is the Model Art Mikasa special ... I guess I have to find the ressources, as I go.

Okay, I know it's a dumb question, but forgive a newbie here. Are scratchbuilds allowed? Pre-dreds are my all time favorite ships and I'm just starting a build of the armored cruiser New York and would love to join in on the fun.
