If only, being single and with no remaining family I get to choose what presents to give myself on Christmas day but then it has its down side, Christmas dinner for one is not much fun.

Hi folks, and Merry Christmas !

A surprise visit here for me, my regular haunts are Aeroscale and Automodeler, but I just had to share this one.

One of my Uncles turned up just before Christmas with some goodies for me that he found hiding in a cupboard while preparing to move house. One of them was this kit . . . .

with all sprues still sealed in bags and the box in virtually new condition. He can't remember how long ago he got it, the kit number is 78002 which seems to be a new tooling release from 1979. It has the electric motor for R/C fitout if required.

This brings my Maritime stash to a massive 3 kits, hopefully this year I might even get to throw some glue at one of them !

Cheers, D

Just been to the Sales with the missus and while her and the daughter were clothes shopping I had a wonder into the WH Smiths book section and got myself some reference material at bargain prices

Hey all, the postman finally delivered my Christmas Ebay acquisitions.

I have already opened both and I am definitely impressed with the Fujimi.

These two will have to wait until I can clear the bench of my current projects.

Where did you get the Kongo? I built it a few years ago now and blogged it on here. It went with all my other ships to a museum so now I have to get another to go with my Haruna. Has the Haruna got the brass barrels and crew figures in the box?

Cheers

Wow, we have a very similar taste sir! I ordered Fujimis Haruna off HLJ two days ago! Probably got the last piece as it seems that they are out of stock now. I also nearly got the Shokaku, but someone beat me to the last piece by a few days... On a sidenote I have passed the Kongo from Aoshima. Kongo class from Fujimi is better and publicised cassemate issue isnt an issue if You are not a rivet counter.

@Russ, thanks

@Warren, I got both from an Ebay Auction and yes, the Fuijimi Haruna does have the Brass Barrels and a set of IJN figures. I have seen your Kngo build blog and will defiantely be referring to it for assistance. great read!!!

@Naseby, I had heard about the casemate issues with the Aoshima and figured it would give me a chance to practice my scratchbuilding / modification skills. Since they are both Kngo class BB's it was interesting comparing the two kits. As with the IJN Cruisers Aoshima molded too much detail onto the deck of the Kongo while Fujimi molded just enough on the Haruna fit.

In either case, im looking forward to attacking these kits...the question is when????

David that's a lot of work, I'm sure you'll have a great time.

I also generally troll the waters of Armorama and Aeroscale, but I forced my brother to get me this out of production kit. I also ordered the MKI detail up kit. Now all I have to do is turn in my pointless thesis so that I can get to modelling.

I think you will find (as I have) that the casemate problems are with the Fujimi kit, not the Aoshima kit...

Have fun!

@Warren, guess I misunderstood the casemate issue..southern public education, I am from Alabama!!!

@Naseby, im not sure I would cosider myself a rivet counter but I do want it to be accurate enough...

guess we will see when I get to them...Thinking of building the Kongo for the Pacific 70+ campaign... A diorama of the USS Samuel B Roberts attacking the IJN Kongo would be cool....hmmmm

David, Kango vs Roberts is the ultimate modeling diorama. I think now that you have brought it up you are committed. We will be waiting with bated breath.
