Looking forward to building all three of them.
scratchbuilt section of flight deck is a good thought.
Now all I need is a deck for Belfast and some decals of the type IXc

Trip to Southern Expo model show at Hornchurch yesterday picked up these two,

Both the usual good value of recent Zvezda kits, it was nice to see several traders with quite a few ships including some HP and combrig resins, but those were unfortunately for me 1/700th.

Looks like your getting quite a 'soft spot' for Zvezda, Si?

Hi Russell,
I do have a soft spot for Zvezda, they may not be quite as refined (or in some cases over-engineered) as their far eastern counterparts, but they are very buildable, with a little bit of work, they can be turned into something just as good.
Also they represent good value for money, and I do have a soft spot for the Imperial Russian navy.

Some good looking kits and bits. Simon, the Sevastopol looks interesting.
I had a parcel arrive from HLJ containing a Skywave triple pack of Buckley/Cannon class DE's which I've been after for ages, and abox of MTB's. They were dirt cheap and I thought they might be useable in dioramas. What I didn't like was being stung by HM customs!

Also had these arrive earlier in the week to replace the poor versions in some older kits.

HMS Walrus??

Sean the book-a-zines (not a book but heavier and better than a magazine)are great full of un-published photos mainly from private collections, it's just a shame I found them when I did and not earlier as Edition No.1 now goes for around £50. One thing to note is the publisher is open to correction and there is a small errata at the front of each edition to correct any mistakes be it new information or slip of the key, or to expand on subjects in previous editions.
One edition has a series of photos of the underwater camera mounting as fitted to one boat to try and film an attack, another some colour photo's of a rare type VIID at sea.
Basically if you can get them and like U-boats then do, you won't be sorry. Check the reviews as Gunny and CMOT have both covered them. Not the short answer I thought I'd be giving you, read on.

Recently had a little box of goodies arrive from WEM.
Some Niko Models 1/700 accessories for a couple of projects I have in the pipeline. A pack of single 2pdr AA guns, Quad 2pdr's and a pack of 4" AA guns.

And a small, unassuming white box.

Which held a 1/700 Round Table class Trawler. And its easily one of the most beautiful little models I have ever had the good fortune to buy.

Casting is first class and the detail is pin sharp. Its clear that the master was 3D printed as some parts do show the 'pixelated' layering common to that method, but a quick swipe with a sanding stick should smooth things out. It's a method I hope to see more and more resin manufacturers begin to use.

Close up of the hull.

And a small etched fret for some of the tinier items. The weapons are also on here and include a 12pdr deck gun, 20mm Oerlikon and twin .303 Vickers MG's.

The model is molded full hull but it would not take much the sand a little off the bottom. It would make a great little addition to a diorama. Thoroughly recommended.

Latest additions to the stash. 10% off on the order from the website & pick from Hannants shop in North London.

The Buchannon etch is the best I can find for the 1940 USS Benson in my stash, a couple of sets of master 4.7" barrels, 1 for the Marne I an working on now and a spare set. The HP Halifax etch and masks are for one of my Battle of the Atlantic campaign buids,
I know below has little Naval connection except for the D Day, but my father served with Royal Engineers from Normandy through Belgium & the Netherlands to Germany, and his unit built some of the forward airfields including B5, and the decals fro the boss of 121 wing which flew out of there are in the box.

And it was an anniversary present from Mrs Duster.
