In the post today was Revell's rebox of the Matchbox HMS Kelly. And its about time they got round to reissuing this one in my opinion.


First impressions are good. Optional bits are provided to do the Kelly or Kipling but I'm sure that others could be done too. A few of the smaller weapons will need replacing so I'll have a hunt about to see what I can get. I like the set of flags and I'll use some of those on other builds.


Now if only they'd see fit to reissuing the Ariadne and Exeter.

The quad 0.5" Vickers, two are for the Trumpeter HMS Eskimo, one of the Quad pompoms, and the etch is for the HMS Zinnia, Might even start that tomorrow.

It is a very good fret for the corvette Julian, lots of options including an enlarged bridge that can be built in early and late versions, two styles of depth charge rack, enlarged Pom pom platform. and lots of the usual stuff incl light AA.

Dropped into my local craft and hobby store, great spot for paint, tools and other unusual stuff, but usually poor for ship kits, but this time I found this old lady.



Just need to acquire the Ponots upgrade / conversion for HMS Duke of York. Don't hold your breath may take while to get on the slipway though.

I got one of those a few months ago Simon but I also got the Pontos upgrade set for it. Pontos also make a conversion set for the Duke Of York I believe...

Sounds like a good project. I'll be watching with interest.
I had a parcel containing 2 Tamiya 1/700 cruisers waiting for me when I got home from work. I picked these up on evilbay for next to nothing.

Old but still nice kits. Minimum of parts so they should build up quickly. I have a couple of sets of Tamiya's weapons and equipment packs that were freebies in a couple of ships that I can use to replace a few bits.


The Kiso even comes with a very nice polished wood display base. I'm finding I've got a bit of soft spot for these Japanese cruisers.

My Pontos set for converting and detailing the Tamiya HMS Prince of Wales as HMS Duke of York has arrived.

251 turn brass parts, 150 resin, 6 sheets of etch, wood deck.





The Turned brass includes a full set of Gun barrels, down to the 20mm, also includes masts, mushroom vents, mooring bits etc, amongst the resin is a set of the correct 5,25" directors for DOY.

Nice catch Simon, that will keep you busy.

My Merit 1/200 Hornet came in today: single piece hull (48 inches long x 5.5 inches wide), clear flight deck sections, 1942-era aircraft including B-25s, single piece island (just add catwalks, funnel cap, tower, and director), and four separate boxes of parts.

The hull molding appears to fall somewhere between the fineness of the classic Revell kit and the chunkiness of the Trumpeter kit. Detail moldings like portholes with 'eyebrow' scuppers and superstructure bits appear to be average in sharpness.

I have 1/200 submarine and destroyer standing by, so here comes my Yorktown at Midway diorama!
