Nice bargin there Warren well after a drying period I have set the model into household filler and then use silicone sealer to create the wave effect and now I,am using a mix of black and royal blue oil paints to start on the sea scape

that looks great.
You might be right about the aircraft, they do look big.

Q about seascapes, is the ship hull fixed in the water, or can it be lifted out?

I have been working on my 1/144 scale CV-6, will post an update in a couple of days.

Jonathan thanks for the comment the ship is set into the silicon if you check out the thread at the top of this page you can see a couple of the steps used for this the hull shape is cut out of the foam block then the wave effect is then shaped on the top the ship is then set into the foam and the silicon is then used around the ship to set in place and further shape the sea scape. This is then left to dry for a few days and then hand painted and dry brushed this is then coated with an automotive laqure to give it a gloss finnish
Hope this helps you if you are going to try something simillar Cheers Keith

Hi Darrell The insulation foam board is the stuff you find in house construction there are different thickness boards and a freind of mine is in the building trade so I get the off-cuts from him The house hold filler is the powder kind that you mix with water to fill in the cracks in walls before you repaint and the silicone I use is the same kind that you would use to seal around you kitchen sink or bathtub most of the stuff I use is just general DIY stuff that you can pick up from the local hardware stores just the cheap stuff will do. Always looking for ways to use whatever I have at hand to use in my models saves money to buy more kits

I would like to build the TOS Enterprise B if allowed. It was started some time ago and this is its current state. Some of the hull pieces were assembled but it is otherwise incomplete.

...and along comes Sean, finally.
I'll be building up a Corsair II with decals for the Big E from CamPro. Glad to be in this one at last...
Enterprise aircraft kick-off
(I included the Winter 2013 kids clothing catalog just to show that I started after 1 Jan 2013, and as a reminder of how busy a house with kids can get.)
And here's the end of my first session on this one...
End of first session
There's enough detail in this kit for me, without pursuing aftermarket stuff. So far a little bit of flash, but after cleanup, the parts fit and engineering is very nice. I anticipate a smooth, pleasant build experience here.
Cheers!

Yes, Hobby Boss. I forgot to mention that. I don't think I had ever built one of theirs before, now that I think about it.

hey Sean, glad to see you on this campaign, that looks like a nice kit.

I keep getting bogged down on my 1/144 CV-6 project. I havent moved forward on the island at all, but I did decide to build a proper flight deck.

This represents about the middle third of the ship. I started laying lumber, leaving gaps for the tie down rails, but I dont have a plan to make that material, and what I did glue down is uneven. now I need to tear up what Ive done and start over.

I built and painted a couple more Dauntlesses, and two Avengers, one was a 20 year old Academy kit, and the other an even older Crown kit from the same tool.

I got as far as applying decals, and the decals are horrible, so those are on hold now too.

I hope to get some more done on this soon.

Jonathan,

Don't want to throw yet another monkey wrench in, but I don't believe the Enterprise ever carried TBFs with the red/white/blue markings and red/white rudders. Those markings were gone by May '42 and the Big E didn't get Avengers until after Midway in June.

I'm sure you are right - and that is a good excuse to give up on the stripe decals. they are flaking and falling off despite my best efforts to set them.

I would have preferred TBDs, but there is no 1/144th scale TBD kit that Ive ever found.

Well, Jonathan, at least that simplifies your decal decision, doesn't it? ...even if the TBF's markings weren't so spectacular. Same insignia blue over gray, isn't it?
Are those markings available in 1/144, or do you have some in your stuff?
I read on this site, and you probably already knew, that they dropped all red from the markings to remove any possible confusion with a hinomaru "meatball" on Japanese aircraft. The British and Aussie's had empty blue and white roundels too, later in the war.
Cool idea with the partial carrier deck diorama. Can't wait to see more.
