I would bet that the "pucker effect" had them looking for their seat cushions after take off. This really makes you understand that there was no margin for error............

Wow, Julian, that looks absolutely impressive!! Great work! Unbelievable crowded, hard to imagine how that all was back than in reality. I had the privilege to sail on a modern US aircraft carrier, the USS John F. Kennedy CV 67 for a few days some years ago, and that seemed pretty crowded and cramped at the time, but there was certainly more room than on your Hornet!
I bookmarked your aeroscale project as well, even though flying things are not normally my core interest. Did those B-25's, after initial struggle, made you addictive after all?!?

Looking forward to both's project's updates!

Hi Jan,
16 B-25's take up a lot of real estate on a carriers deck

Thanks for the kind comments. I am just staking a plot of ground over on Aeroscale for when the Airfix Typhoon arrives.
Building 16 B-25's nearly put me off aircraft for good

Julian,
The continued progress looks great! I want ask a question about your painting. When you built the island did you have all the photo-etched railings already glued in place? If so, when you painted the camouflage pattern, how did you mask the photo-etch areas to get a sharp demarcation line? Also, what glue did you use to attach the photo-etch to the model? Finally, did you paint any of your photo-etched before it was attached?
Thanks

Hi Phillip,
this is my way of doing things so it doesn't necessarily mean this is the only way to do things

The railings were glued in place when I painted the island.
No masking was used at all. The ground coat was the same grey as the upper hull and the pale grey cammo, (life colour paint), was brush painted on island and railings.
The glue used was Gator Grip Glue produced by our very own Kenny Loup, (I hope he starts making up a new batch of glue because my store is getting very empty).
No PE was painted before application to the island.
Hope this answers your questions
cheers,
Julian

Since it is a custom Julia a beautiful work. But I am sure that already you have desire of opening the window and giving the orders to demolish to Doolittle and all his B 25 ......... what if I am called the attention .... all the hours take you to order and to clean the shipyard jajajajajja a time ago communicate with Kenny Gator, very nice person!!
I am waiting for a friend that me the ok and to entrust a few bottles of this magic product that you use

June 18th update:
All green B-25's now, just need to add the de-icing boots and canopies and then start decalling

 Also adding railings:

Julian,
Thanks very much for the response. From the photos I would have never guessed the "camo" portion was hand painted. It looks really good

Julian,
One detail I just noticed you may want to correct. Up until about May 15, 1942, all U.S. Navy aircraft still carried the red centers in the national insignia and red and white stripes on the rudders. It is unfortunate that Merit did not include these decals because they sure should have.
Thanks

Looking very nicely cluttered there, Julian!
Bet you'll be glad to see the finish of all those wingy thingies though?

Hi Phillip,
I think you mentioned this somewhere before in this blog. Haven't forgotten your advice but I need to do a small test before going part of the way on this correction,

Hi Keith,
I know, I am very ashamed of myself for cleaning up the mudpit and putting you guys in the firing line of your own SWMBO

It's a horrifying experience working on a clutter free workbench.

Yeah, mentioned this to Daniel. Repetitive building is a bit like whooping cough

Final result seems to be getting there though.
