Hi Russ,

Was a bit naughty, built that whilst I had that little break from the site last year. snowed under with pressures of work.

That was a straight out of the box build, basically as see how it goes together so I know (ish) what I am doing hacking this one around.

Ok Russ, I will go and sit on the naught step for a bit.

meantime yesterday's efforts.

Camouflage painted on the hull, and masked ready for the boot topping.



all the cut outs removed from the artworks wood deck ready for fitting.



In place, with the boot topping painted in.



Coaling hatches added from the dreadnought set. (all 36 of them).



Not that clear, but they are the little darker grey dots.

I have just realised I haven't started on the superstructure yet, but with the net boom fittings and the coaling hatched there are over 100 pieces of etch on this lady already.

I won't stick my neck out on the accuracy of the shades, but the contrast looks about right compared to the photographs of the ship.

Notice you're using the Pontos Dreadnaught set to enhance her. I asked Pontos if they were going to do a set specifically for her and their reply was quite obscure in that there wasn't enough time...

Hi Russ,

Frankly I did not expect one, and as I want to this with the nets extended, I knew from building the Nelson the kit booms wouldn't work, and this was the only option. Also provide aerial spreaders, coaling hatches and a few other bits and pieces that will be useful.

This week's progress.

Funnel casings & etc painted and in place.




Quarterdeck details fitted.



The main superstructure built.



Base coated, dark grey.



Camouflaged and test fitted.



The screws painted and fitted.

good old Artwox, I miss their decks, they were always trouble free.


Close mate, five on the trot at the moment. the four on here. Warspite, Intrepid, Agamemnon & Aldenham, plus The Wingnut Wings 1/32nd Ship's Camel. I do usually have two aircraft on the go, so you would have been right.

I build this way, because I always have something to work on when I am at my bench and not sitting there waiting for glue or paint to dry.

That and being ever so "slightly" mad

The weekend's progress.

First image is slightly off topic, but as I mentioned it, the cockpit of the Camel.



Right on with the Agamemnon:

The two 12pdrs below the shelter deck fitted.



Just having looked at the photographs again, I need to repaint the barrels light grey.

The superstructure fixed down.



Winches for the derricks, vent boxes and a couple of other bits and pieces in place on the shelter deck.



Shelter deck 12pdrs in place.



the fwd gun on the beam was removed at this time to make way for an extra flying bridge just ahead of the fwd funnel.

The after platform was enlarged, the after most pair of 12pdrs were removed and replaced with a singe 3" AA gun.



And painted ready for fitting.



The boat deck and the after platform fitted.

Funnels next I think.

all that prep work will pay off on the final finish.

This is getting to the interesting bit, I am working mostly from descriptions of the changes to the 1915 fit, and a few grainy photographs.

agree with you Russ,

would like to have a few more kits out there to practice them on, especially some of the extreme dazzle schemes.

I will admit is deduction on my part, as I can find no written or photographic evidence, the boat deck would likely have been covered with corticene, the non slip linoleum that was the precursor of semtex.

I have to admit I wasn't convinced by wood veneer decks when they first appeared, but I am a convert. I know the grain is overscale, and they are often too bright, however they do look like wood, which I have never been good at achieving with a paint brush.
