Si,
Nice progress. I seen these figures on line but been holding off purchasing them because I am not sure how to get them off the base without breaking the legs. They seem so fragile.

Thanks Mark,
I think these are going easier that most, If you look closely, they are standing a little above the base, should be able to get small side cutters in to take them off, and leave enough to hold the figure for painting, well that's what I hope.
We shall find out.
Cheers

I´m also curious if you are more successful then me removing those figures off its pedestial. I Always spraypainted them with their basic uniform color first an then handpainted the faces and hands. The most tricky part for me was everytime the removing off their base - I had a loss rate of about 33% due to broken legs or MIA sailors resting somewhere in a dark corner of my room.
A question to Northstar Models if they have a tip for me how to tackle these at best and if it would be possible to make the pedestials more spacier for easier painting and removing the figures was unanswered... Very curious about your approach now

Likely to get on some figures next weekend. as these guys are going to be in tropical kit, will spray the lot white first, then start trimming them off.
Will see how I get on.

This weekend's progress, the base.
Testing the ship's position on the base.

The base sprayed black.

The edges masked and the position for the supports marked.

The groundwork down.

The ship fixed in position above the base, as if in shallow water.

The anchor cable in place.

When anchoring a ship, normally 5 times the depth of weather is laid out, so the anchor is about 4" off the edge of the base.
An overview.

I am still short of some material to make the nets from, will have a go at sourcing that this coming weekend.
Cheers
Si

Si,
Really like where you are going with the base. Never thought of seeing one grounded.

Not quite grounded mate,
she is sitting in about 45 scale feet of invisible water. I may find a way of creating the water, but with nets partially deployed that will be tricky.
We shall see.

Thankyou Jacob,
Water is going to be tricky, the next problem is the semi deployed torpedo nets.
Thanks for looking in.

 Si,
When I seen those rocks sitting underneath the hull and the anchor chain laid out I thinking you were going to show her grounded, my mistake.

Not a problem Mate, from that angle she does look like she is aground. May find a solution to the water issue, plenty of time for that Got to solve the nets problem, ladies hosiery might work in 1/700th, but I cannot find anything with quite the body and the right mesh for I/350th, Yet.....
Cheers.

Possibly Russ, but that is going to be quite expensive.
I might not quite have thought this through.

small update,
Figures. Base coated.

The first two removed, very sharp blade used, just wriggled gently under the feet, and they came away neatly.

A bit of detail added, the officer of the watch and a midshipman for the compass platform.

In place, they will be watching the port nets being deployed.

More soon.
Cheers Si.

Thanks Mark,
Might be a few more than that Mark, got a few Fujumi & L'Arsenal figures to add for a bit of variety.

Almost there, Si!
And the beast is looking absolutely fantastic!!
I keep admiring your rigging skills. Even with copying your brass wire method, I could not get it right as I wanted it on my Hood. Great work!!

I've just worked my way through this topic from the very beginning as I'm considering buying this kit. There are so many learnings here for a beginner!
I wonder, did you complete the kit? It was pretty much there but I'd love to see the completed diorama.
