Looking good Si!
Don't know if it's too late for this build Si, but it looks like Master Model do listen to our emails, even if they don't reply as they've released a set for Nelson and her sister here
Mine's on order from my LHS already
Thanks Russ,
She is coming on. still quite a distance to go though. It looks a very nice upgrade, although the 12pdr barrels are going to be fun. Bit late for me, unless of course I decide to build another Agamemnon, and convert her into her mid 20's configuration as a target ship.
Cheers

Last weekend's progress.
The construction of roof for the enlarged foretop.
The foretop fitted and camouflaged, along with the fore topmast.
The roof painted and fitted, along with the Yardarms.
An overview, including the as yet unpainted after main turret as well.
More soon.
Cheers

Thanks Mark,
I am not quite sure yet whether the missing main topmast makes her look sleek or unbalanced.

good to see some overall profile shots Si!
Amazing how tall they are! (Gosh I hope it's gonna fit my display cabinet!
)
Fingers crossed neither of us knock them off!
Stay home and build models!

You are welcome Russ,
They are surprisingly tall, I would guess that may have something to do with the efficiency, or lack thereof, of the primitive transmitter / receivers of the early 20th centaury.
I don't even want to think about her hitting the floor mate, which is why she is sat on an inner berth at the RedDuster shipyard!

This week's progress.
Test fitting the kit ladders for access to the foretop.
They come up a little short from the photographs, although not clear, the photographs appear to show these ladders going to the lower platform. Also the Drawings of the Lord Nelson also depict something looking more like ratlines. I sourced a set from a scrap etched fret.
Ladders fitted up the tripod legs of the mainmast.
A new platform built using a mix of unused kit etch and dreadnought parts.
Painted and fitted, the camouflage also added across the steps, they will need a wash and a section of ladder going to the lower platform.
The main turrets painted an camouflaged.
I Have no clear pictures of the after turret, but as from the photographs I do have all the secondary turrets had a camouflaged I see no reason the after main turret would not be camouflaged.
Next a couple of small detail jobs, then the rigging.
Cheers

Si,
The ratlines look better than the ladder, nice job.

Thanks Mark,
Those ladders were the only "odd" piece of etch in the kit, everything else fits very well. Saved by the good graces of the spares box.

I too like your ratlines solution; it subtly underscores the transitional place Agamemnon's generation occupied between traditional 19th Century ships and modern dreadnaughts!

Thank you Tim,
This was a bit of serendipity, the kit ladders were too short, and the left over ratlines fit. It I think is more accurate, I cannot see clearly on any photographs I have found, but the side elevation of HMS Lord Nelson at this period in Burt does show what appears to be ratlines on the foremast.
Now you mention it, the Juxtaposition is rather intersesting.

One of the things I find interesting is how these early battleships/dreadnoughts/pre-dreadnoughts almost look like Toon or Egg ships because of how short and stumpy they are compared to later ships

Hi Rory,
Good point, they also remind me of the Battleships I used to doodle when I was about seven years old.
Thanks for looking in

The weekend's progress.
An overview with the camouflaged main turrets fitted.
Photographs of the ship in 1915 show a crow's nest, a couple of bits of plastic rod solve that issue.
Painted and a ladder up to it in place and the rigging started, footropes on the main yardarm.
Lifts on the upper yard arm in place and the beginnings of the halyards in place.
More soon.

Thanks Mark,
It was one thing I liked about the idea of building the ship as she was during the Dardanelles campaign.

Si,
I just could keep it short and simple: nothing to add to what Russ said!!
Fantastic work and she looks great - may I say ugly in very beautiful way?? She really seems to say "don't mess with me" with every inch of her hull...

Thank you Jan,
Very kind of you say so.
You may indeed say that, because it is a very apt description of the old girl. I also like "purposeful elegance".
More rigging shortly.
Cheers
