...cage aerials, SHUDDER!!!

For sure!

Hi Mark & Russ,

Not just these two, there will another albeit smaller pair.

They are not as scary as you would think, the Pontos spreaders are very nicely done, I wish they would sell set of the separately, the copper wire also gives a little stability.

Cheers

The long slow process of the Cage aerial.

the fourth and fifth strands added.

fitted and removed ready to be turned over and ready for the remaining three strands to be added.

with a bit of luck I will get these two finished this weekend. I think I will finish off the lowered davits before I tackle the other two cage aerials.

Cheers

Thanks Mark,

That can be a little tricky, as there is always the danger of springing a wire out of the end spider.

Three more wires to get on each one yet.

Very kind of you to say so Mark.

Are we mad because we are ship modellers, are we ship modellers because we are mad?

More cage aerials,

all eight stands on, and the ends trimmed.

The ends gently bent inwards in line with the arm f the spider to which it is attached. the wires attached to fit them between the yard arms.

sprayed a steel colour and fitted in place,

an overview.

More soon.

Cheers

Thanks Mark,

They are just a matter of patience, (and a bit of swearing).

Back to finishing the boat rigging before I tackle the two shorter runs, aft from the mainmast towards the quarterdeck.

Cheers

Thanks Russ,

The etched spiders make it somewhat easier than it looks. Mind, it still test my knowledge of trying to get the wires to sit straight on them.

appreciate your kind comment Mate.

Thanks Mark,

I have to say I need a break before I tackle the second set. Knowing my luck, by the time I get those finished, t will be time to rig something else.

Thanks again for looking in, always appreciated.

Si,

I have a 1/200 Japanese submarine waiting to be built that I've been afraid to start because of a cage aerial...

You have pulled yours off admirably - and in 1/350 scale!

Well done, my friend!

Thanks Mark,

It was very helpful to have a good clear photograph to work from for the davit rigging.

Thank you Tim,

The etched spreaders are a big help, they give the cage structure whilst it was being assembled. I would struggle without those. I hope you can find something that would work for the submarine.

Thanks again.

Sure have missed a bit in the last few days.

The boat rigging is a highlight and you've even managed to include pulleys! Yikes!

PS. Where did you get the pulleys from mate?

Thanks Russ,

The pulleys were scratchbuilt, there is a bit of plastic rod the copper wire is fixed to, the cover plates were shaped and cut from thin plastic strip.

Cheers
