Rigging is a sign there'll be an available slipway in the Heathwood dockyard very soon methinks!

Bit premature there mate,
Still got the cage aerials to go, and the deployed torpedo nets, for which I have to find material for. plus a few other details, like a base.

Aft superstructure davits, the white bits are plasticard fitted to represent the hinge points.
stbd side davit mounts
Stbd davits fitted lowered.
Rigging the port side davits started.

Coming along nicely Si-Rigging is the finishing touch that takes a ship from "toylike" true model IMHO...

This weekend's progress.
More work on the stowed davits.
The two whalers that will be used for the superstructure davits. The boat with the rudder and tiller fitted will be swung out on the starboard side. The other boat, with the rudder & tiller stowed will be swing in on the port side.
The port boat in position.
Rigging work on the starboard davits, it appears, from photographs, that these davits splay out as they go down
A break from the boatwork, the forestays commenced.
Yes there is a line going from the fore top to the forward turret, is visible on some photographs. I would assume it is for communications purposes.

This week's progress.
Foremast backstays in place.
The boat pole in place, and rigged, this acts as a fender between the boat and the ship's side.
The boat rigged and in place.
Next jobs - more rigging, the lifts for the lowered davits, sheets for the foremast yardarms, then the dreaded cage aerials.

The Boats and their Davits are very well done Si. Not many P/E Sets and Kits include the Boarding Ladders which set them off very nicely.....Cheers mark

It is unusual, but there are some very good photos in Burt's British Battleships 1889 - 1904. In my experience, albeit on tankers, the boarding ladders were on rolled up on the deck between the davits. Might not have got it quite right, but it is close.

It is one of the things, along with winches and other stowage for the boats that is missing from many kits. Not every etched even includes the falls.
These ladders were left overs from another project, good job in this scale a ladder can be rope or steel depending on how they are painted.

Not everyone has a sense of the size of the hulls, superstructures, and turrets of these vessels, but most of us can relate to small boats! Their size contrast with the bulk of the ship make it easier for folks to appreciate the immensity of the real battlewagons.

I agree, the boats do give a sense of scale, and getting the details in can lift a model.
I do draw on my seafaring days, although it was on Merchant ships more than 60 years after the period of this build. When it comes down to it, the basic design on pulling boats, (the older ships I sailed on had one motor lifeboat, the others were pulling boats) hasn't changed that much. The technology of davits might have changed, but once you get past the davit head the rigging is much the same.
