PE in 1/700 scale really is fun isn't it?!

That said I must say I'm enjoying my build too, just done a little more to her. Will take some pics again later this week. Sorely tempted to go for a 1/350 BB next...

I'm still having fun, I'm learning new stuff so it's all good. Even bending that teeny tiny PE is a welcome diversion from the stress in my life.

Mark

That's good to hear, mate!
And trust me, I can feel your pain about the 1/700 PE! I'm doing DML's 1/700 USS Saipan for the Flattops campaign, and I'm adding Gold Medal Models' PE set to this subject...very TINY stuff, indeed!... and I am quite used to 1/350 scale for the floaties and 1/35 for the armour subjects! But that's why we all love this hobby, isn't it?...the challenges that we face and (hopefully!) overcome!
Try taking your photo's outside on a clear day, Bro...the results are much better! I use a small tripod with my digital also...Keep me posted on your progress, Mark, and thanks for the participation!

:-) Hi Mark (md72)

The other Mark (Gunny) is building the USS Saipan for Flattops - he already has finished his Dreadnoughths entry
unlike me - although I am almost done with the USS Arizona

Hi Mark

I have finished applying all the PE and tonight I am going to airbrush those delicate structures, main gun turrets and the "loose" PE, like cranes and catapult.
Also have molded the blast bags for all turrets (with White Milliput)
With this done, I am almost ready on the Arizona
After this task, weathering and rigging it, and I have to finish the base as well (Tug, mooring blocks) and the "sea".
I also plan crowding the Arizona, Tug, Mooring Blocks and a small dingie (just like the painting shows).

This project has been FUN with, of course, some cursing periods :-) :-)

After this is ready... Flattops! - but I am not sure which one to make - but this is the easiest of problems to solve

Hello mates.
I need to know what's the meaning of "Dreadnoughts?" I didn't get to find this word in my dictionaries. I can just suppose the meaning. So, may I ask you something?
Please, would the "USSR Navy Sovremenny Class Project 956 Destroyer" be a "dreadnought"?
Thanks and sorry for my poor English.

Allow me to display my ignorance. HMS Dreadnaught (Dreadnought?) was the first true battleship, commissioned in 1906. I guess that the name stemed from the idea that she was such a powerfull ship that she 'dreaded not any ship', which was shortened to Dreadnaught. It seems that the name has been used to describe battleships since then.

I yield the floor to other more knowledgable sailors.

As to your ship in particular, that's Gunny's call.

Enjoy!

I think you got it right on. Dread of course is another word for "fear" and "naught" is an expresion for "nothing" although that word has not been used commonly in "american" english for a long time.

So a good literal translation would be "afraid of nothing". After HMS Dreadnaught was built, the term came to be synonymous with all battleships.

Mark, Tom, both are correct!
And to be extremely technical, Here is Websters meaning of the word Dreadnought...
"an early 20th century heavily armored battleship, with it's main armament consisting of big guns all of the same caliber"...So in essence, Gaucho, no, she's not a "true Dreadnought"...May I ask you why you need to know if this ship is a "Dreadnought"?? If you would like to enter this as a second entry, mate, then I would have to say go for it, as I have already allowed another Destroyer entry into the campaign...Follow the thread below to see the question and my reply

Hi Martin

The red really makes a difference.
Just need to touch up the grays on the barrels

Mark,
I forgot I had a dinner yesterday - so, no progresses to show.
Also I am going to Judge a model contest (ModelTroia) during this weekend, so very little will be made in the next days.

I'll take some pics tonight, for your pleasure

Hi Mark

It's fun, but you have to pay a lot of attention to details
I am one of the Naval Judges - we are two! The other one is a Friend of our modeling club and former Portuguese Navy Officer.
And then there are other Judges for Airplanes, AFV's, Figurines... very much like the Armorama "departments"

I have to travel 50Km south, so it isn't a great trip

Heres a couple updated pictures of my Bismarck. Ive been really busting my butt lately trying to get the planking done. Im getting kind of worried about meeting the deadline. Im already behind on the flattops campaign. The first picture you can tell I have a coat of stain on the 02 deck and not the main deck.

The only planking I have left to do is from the forward turrets to the bow.

Heres a link to a site with more pictures. Ill try and keep you guys posted on my progress better in the
future.

P.S.
Keep up the nice work Martin, love the Gneisenau. Makes me want to get my Scharnhorst out and finish it.

Gunny, yes I wanted to know if that ship was a Dread, because I got one and I was thinking about building it for the campaign.
Actually, I forgot my first entry. Had I already enrolled one?
hehehe. Besides the bad English a bad memory.
Which was my first entry please? I don't remember. It was not the first time that I forgot my entry in some campaign. Sorry
Well, anyway I know now what is a Dreadnought.

I'm currently dead in the water...school, work and family functions are the culprits as usual.
I should be able to get my IJN Haruna done, but I still have some reservations about the build, as it's my first time using PE and "making" water. Just have to figure out where to fit in some build time...

Don't worry buddy, since the finish date was extended, I'm already involved in this campaign, my flattop is almost done. That's why I was choosing my "Dreadnought".
Well, is anybody building the battleship HMS King George V? If no, it will be my FIRST entry. Surely now.
The box is on my workbench, I won't forget it anymore.
