Hello, Mate!

Good to hear from ye' again, and I do believe that you're on the right track with your education, my man, although it is cutting in on your love of plastic. You'll have alot of time later after you get a good education, and a job to match (professor, I presume? ). Thanks for touching base, mate, and good luck with your studies!

Gunny

Thanks Gunny!

Professor or research (preferrably combined) is my goal indeed. And so far I seem to be on the right track (grades are where they need to be, and if I keep up my work, I do have the support of my professors as well).
So for a few more years, plastic time will be off and on...

Skipper,

thanks for the reaction. And I am already there at the moment (though the weather was so bad that Spring Break could not be enjoyed that much). And the need for break-time is why I will postpone graduation for 6 months.

I have basically been working my behind of for 1.5 years without any breaks (up to the point where friends and college consillors called me crazy) to fully recharge. And I have had it with it. I know I can probably do a rush job and graduate in September... but that would mean that besides having no break at all, I will hand in a a job that I am not satisfied with at all. And I am not happy with that for my papers (had to do that already once) just as I, and I take the liberty to presume most if not all of us, are not happy to to dat when building a model.

And I know that you and my plastic will be here when I get back. And I definately plan to hop by on a regular basis to see what everybody is up to.

Cheers,

Harm

OK guys what happened?

I get sent TDY for a week and my lifeline to the real (fun) world gets broken. Do I now generate 2 different post counts and hve 2 different ranks?

This is not a dream...this is not a dream... :-)

Hi Mark!
Quite a surprise, isn't it mate!? For right now, just post here as normal, and keep building models, until the Commander in Cheif has all the bugs worked out...

~!@#$%^&*+_)(*, I'm stuck in Korea for the rest of the week with no models to work on. On the bright side, I get to check out a Korean Hobby shop on Saturday.

Here is my finished entry for the campaign.
The Japanese battleship Kirishima in 1/700 scale, kindly donated by Blade48mrd ( Mike Durr ).
This is the first floaty thing i have built and to tell the truth i didn't have a clue what i was doing :-) , it didn't help with the instructions being in Japanese either. it took me a while to get into the project as i couldn't find a lot of colour photos of the ship, but once i started it was full speed ahead and i even tried my hand at a bit of rigging ( i bow done to all who rig those sailing things ).
My attempt probably isn't accurate or very good but i am quite happy with the end project.
Comments good or bad are welcome.

Hey Andy,

That is quite impressive for your first ship! A difficult subject matter to start off with and your rigging is infinitely better than my feeble attempts!, and kuddos for making your first ship a waterline with a water base.

Well done!

BRAVO, Andy!

I'll tell ya what, mate, first ship model, first waterline, quite impressive!...I really like the overall look, Bro, and tell me two things-did you have fun, and are you going to build another ship model? You better watch out, because they can be QUITE an addiction, mate! Thanks for the entry, Andy, your participation in this fantastic campaign, and all of your discussion...and hey, there's still time to build ANOTHER entry mate! :-) or do I hear Flattops? DDD 2? ...How about it?

Hi Andy

Your Kirishima looks very good - Congratulations!!!
I like the subtle weathering, the rigging and as Frank Portela said, the fact that you placed it on a water base it really adds a lot of visual impact to it!

On your next ship, you should try and use some PE sets to enhance even further the little model - you will see

Once again, Congartulations

Thanks guys for your comments.
Once i got onto the swing of this kit i did enjoy building it so when i attempt another one i think i will move up to 1/350, as the detail will be a lot better and i might even add some P.E to it.
I added the rigging masks as the kit didn't have any and i would like to thank my eldest daughter for contributing her hair for the rigging ( it seemed just the right thickness :-)8 ). The base was made using the excellent feature by BrandydogUK on the Armorama UK MSN site.
As for the other campaigns i have already signed up for the Flattops ( which I'm doing an aircraft for) and i have just signed up for DDD 2 as i have always wanted to build a U-boat ( any suggestions on a good kit ).

Hi Andy
Any of Revell 1/72 U-boots will do (you asked good)
You can choose VII-C or a modified VII-C/41

Glad to have you aboard and keep contributing

Ahoy, Maties!
Just a quick little reminder, we still have a little over two months left on this extension to the Dreadnoughts Campaign, still plenty of time to finish up your entry's...and with Flattops and DDD2 rolling along, and Leyte soon to start, we will continue to have a very busy build-a-thon here at Model Shipwrights! So with this in mind, anybody have any new Dreadnoughts discussions to share with us? How are ye' coming on yer' builds, ya scurvy dogs??!! Or is everyone finished?? AArrrggghhh!

Hi Mark

Just a further update I have been working away I think I am pretty close to getting the ship painted.

I really admired Andys work I am unsure if I will go to the trouble/detail of the rigging.

I have just about finished all the vaious sub assemblies. I should have all construction etc completed by the end of this week.

I am getting the paint next week once I get paid.

Any recommendations on a good Tamiya Acrylic paint for the Admiral Schree wooden deck/s and grey hull and superstructures would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Hi Sean!
Ready to paint, eh? Thats great!...listen, here's a link with all of Tamiya's paint color charts on it, and also a fantastic color chart conversion if the color scheme for you model is listed in a different paint manufacturer.

First the Tamiya

Now the Conversion Chart

Hope this helps ya out some, mate!

Got quite a bit done over the weekend, and I'm quickly getting to the point that I will no longer be able to avoid doing all 49 of those 20mm mounts. Thinking that I was getting "close", I thought I'd make a quick list of all the remaining tasks and put down next to each one about how long I thought it would take. Right now it looks like about 60 hours of work left.

UGH!! Lucky for me I've got a 4 day weekend ahead. (Now if I can JUST avoid the "honey do" list just a LITTLE longer...................)

Looking over the list, the next likely time to take some progress shots will be in about 2 weeks.

My KGV is on hold right now whilst I concentrate on HMS Hood (for a build review here). But she's about 75% done and I don't see any problems with having her finished by the end of the campaign (famous last words!)

OK, after Mike's poor Alabama that I BUBAR'd a few days ago, I went out hunting today, but my two LHS's in Koblenz don't stock Hasegawa, so I got myself Revell's 1/540 HMS King George V, and it looks great. Start work on it tomorrow.

Hi David!

Total bummer about your Alabama, mate...
The Revell King George is a GREAT kit, though, and will build up into a nice ship...Better luck with this one, Bro, keep me posted!
