They are relying on no one else having the item for sale yet and early adopter (ie suckers) buying it. Give it a few months and the price will drop. It is the way I will be going I think as it has everything you need (says Warren who hasn't seen the thing in the flesh yet).
If you have a look at it there are 10 sheets of PE, including one coloured one, 113 brass parts, wooden deck, anchor chain etc etc. It will be one of the sets I will be considering, if my Big B ever turns up that is..

You are most probably right there Warren, might be an advantage for you having to wait a bit longer in Oz for the Big B to arrive.
$400 dollars is just too steep for me, I'll pass on this one

I don't blame you one bit Julian, especially when you have gone to the trouble of painting your plastic deck. The cost of the pack is almost covered by the labour savings of the wooden deck!!
It would take many hours to paint the deck and at even $50 an hour it takes just 8 hours to justify the pack.
The brass masts would be nice as well.
They also have a DX Lite pack available for a huge saving.
One other factor to remember is the shear size of all the bits and pieces in 1/200...
How about this one
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-200-BISMARCK-ACCESSORY-SET-for-Trumpeter-by-MK-1-Design-MS-20003-/170886865375?pt=Model_Kit_US&hash=item27c9a6a1df
or this one
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-200-BISMARCK-VALUE-PACK-Trumpeter-MK1-design-MD-20003-/180937668065?pt=Model_Kit_US&hash=item2a20b9b5e1
Lose the turned brass bits and save $200!!
If you look deeper you can find the DX pack for just $279...

Your wishes have already been answered Stephen. Mk1 has released those as seperate sets. If you go to the $279 Ebay Store he has them all there.

Can you take it back? I feel sorry for your Wife as she thought she was doing the right thing and ended up getting burned. I am not sure I would have told her. Maybe you could get a good price for it on Ebay then order one from OS.
I don't think the DX set will come down below $239 for quite a while. I will be ordering one when my Big B gets here.

Bit of a problem if they don't ship overseas for many of us. I am saving my money for the MK1 DX Kit. Everything in one package.

Looking forward to seeing your progress guys.

Sorry for the somewhat long absence, but I can see that Julian have managed shop perfectly

I haven“t been entirely idle, but have worked on the base/display stand for the ship, its prepared for a glass/acrylic cover - the frame is stained wood and the surface is black lacquer.

Cheers/Jan

That looks gorgeous Jan, hefty chunk of timber you have bolted underneath the Bismarck
No problem fitting the ship on two points Jan? I have two brass pedestals I want to use on my build.
No time for me to sit back and admire my own work I see
Cheers,

It would be. And in 1/200 the sheets will be much thinner relative to the size of the ship. Personally, I think the price is fantastic for the amount of stuff you get in the set. The colour photo-etch is just icing on the cake.
I will be ordering one as soon as my Bismarck gets here.

Every one needs to take a chill-pill and relax.
Remember, there ARE other P.E. manufacturers!

K.A. is just the first in line.

Artwox claims they have something almost ready.

I am sure the Lion Roar, Fly-Hawk, and Eduard people are looking at this kit and rubbing their chins.

I would be happy with a P.E. set that comes without the wooden decks.

- A careful coat of paint is closer to scale than a layer of veneer.

Have you ever tried a self-adhesive wooden deck?

Nope, can't say I have Warren. I also haven't tried bungee-jumping, magic mushrooms, piercings or snorting wasabi
If that's your thing go for it, I find the price for after market PE sets and whatnot's is getting rather obscene
Just my 2 cents though
Julian
