January 22nd update:
Operation Rheinübung phase 1 colours, May 1941. Turrets have all now received their basic coats of paint. Weathering still to come to pull Bruno, Cesar and Dora into harmony with Anton. Port side secondary armament coming together nicely.
I am still dubbing on whether to pull the dark grey all the way back to where the blast bags would have been or to leave Bruno and Cesar as they are:

Thanks Anthony,
the "Hellgrau" contrasts nicely with the light wood deck.
Not sure if it is 100% accurate but it looks yummy

Good friend Julian the flu sits you well. Jejeje. Very subtle the wear in the tower Aton. Seem brilliant, very royal!! You finish all the secondary batteries great!! I love double 105 mm though they did not serve for anything jejejjeje. I wait for them.
A question ....... the 20mm AAA on chimneys. Are they of the kit or GPM??
I finish two 37 mm AAA of GPM!!... sees brilliant, but hard work!!

That the force accompanies you
Friend like that follows that these in the good way. The whole work of art!!
Regards Daniel

Good day all Great build I will follow to finish but I have a question. I am looking at the KA models upgrade kit for the Bismarck. it cost as much as the ship, is it the best upgrade, or is there a better set
Thanks
Jim

Daniel I cheated

I used the model 20 mm but added photo etch breech, shoulder rests and shell net

Not telling anyone though

The GPM stuff is beautiful but extremely difficult to build.

Hi Jim,
I think the KA is the only set available at the moment but there are more in the pipeline. I think the price of the KA set is obscene so I am not buying it.

They are just $240 here, not the $399 some tosser on Ebay is asking. I don't see that as obscene when you look at all you get in the set. But I spent $200 on a Pontos detail up set for my 1/350 USS Yorktown...

Sorry I made a mistake, $200 on the Pontos set. The point I am making is that you get tons of PE, a wooden deck and lots of turned brass that will allow us other less-than-skilful schmucks to turn out a fantastic looking model. For the skill challenged like me out here in modelling land it is good value.
After all I am not going to build another 1/200 Bismarck anytime soon so I am going to toss all the resources I can at this one.

I haven't ordered one as I haven't even got the model yet, and there are a few more coming out but I think the MK1 Models one will be my choice jut for the brass masts.
You are doing a great job so far Julian. Hope you find somewhere to store the finished ship.

You touch a tender point there Mr. Inman

My better half is rather not amused by the size of the Big B
I am rather interested in how the Eduard railings set looks. The Trumpie PE railings are seriously naff to say the least.

I just went to order said MK1 Design PE set from a well known UK shop but they tried to charge me an extra 40 ponds as a non-UK surcharge.. Needless to say I felt like saying stick it where the sun doesn't shine, but I instead asked them why I was being made to pay the surcharge. I will pass on the reply and advertise their name if I am not happy with their reply.

I was going to order from BNA but as you said they are out of stock and the UK site was advertising them for cheaper. No harm in asking.

This may be of interest guys: White Ensign are doing a PE set for this one, but instead of one huge (and no doubt pricey) set, they are doing lots of smaller sets so you can pick and chose which ones you want.

Don't know how long it'll take them though

I have been waiting for some WEM sets for a long time now.. Don'y hold your breath.. And these ones are only at the planning stage.

And you might find buying them part by part turns out to be much more expensive than one big set.
Mind you WEM do make awesome PE.
We shall see.

True, but knowing WEM, they'll probably offer an ultimate set at a bulk discount rate as well. If there enough pre-orders it'll bump to the top of the priority list too.

The surcharge was a mistake and was removed. They also offered me a 5% discount on any purchase which I will take them up on one day.
@ Russell, it will be interesting to see what happens. I hope as you say that BNA get a load of those sets in, and they are even cheaper!!
But enough of our idle chit-chat , lets watch these guys really get into their builds and stuff them up, err.. sorry, build museum quality models..
