You will love this one Warren,
Trumpeter delivered a very nice base to work from here.
My build is still too clean and too monochrome at the moment,
needs some washes and weathering to liven it up.
cheers mate, thanks for the kind remarks,
Julian
Don't go overboard as the ship was only at sea for a short while before she was sunk. Before then it was the pride of the DKM and was having dignitaries visiting frequently so she would have been in tip-top shape at all times. But it is your model and your build so you can do a Mig on it if you want...
You may be right, I may be crazy.

Trash it ? No, I sailed for 10 years before becoming a desk-jockey. The big B wouldn't have looked bad at all on her final mission.
Salt, dirt and some light rust, nothing more here.
Cheers,
Julian

Then you know all about chipping etc then..

I have a photo here of a lovely clean Bismarck and that could be how mine is going to be.
Enjoy mate

Your son looks very happy with such a big box Daniel
Is this really going to be a Bismarck or do you have other secret plans
My wife really considered hitting me with the Bismark hull.
I hope your wife was a little more considerate of the problems we model builders have with budgeting our hobby

Thank you Daniel for the feed-back on the gun director:

What I would like to verify is if there is a protective cover over the lens/periscope glass. It is difficult to find a good photo of this director. The drawings available seem to indicate it was covered, (anatomy of the ship, Militaria XX etc.)
cheers,
Julian

My order from modellschlachtschiffe is ready and underway, should arrive next week sometime. Some nice extras to detail up a couple of rather prominent pieces of the Bismarck.

Supposed to be lenses or lens covers. Not too sure about this effect myself to be quite honest

A couple of irons on the fire at the moment Daniel,
bridge wings, hangar doors and some other things from Germany.
I have also ordered Kagero's 3D Bismarck.
Not enough hours in a weekend for two builds though
My Fokker Dr.1 is consuming a large part of this weekend.

Yes, I don't think it is very realistic... I think gloss black would be more likely. Modern optics on AFVs may look blue at times but it is only from a certain angle. Many of the coatings are to stop laser light from bouncing down the lens pathway and blinding people. Not many lasers back then..

Still looking very nice Mr Gremlin.

Yep, think your right Warren, these blue fish eyes have been staring at me all week and they don't really improve with time
I'll give the gloss black a try.

March 9th update:
Directors and wobble-pots added. I am getting rather disgusted with the Trumpeter railings supplied with the kit. They are about as solid as wet chewing gum

Will have to look around for some 1/200 PE railings.

Cheers,
Julian
