March 24th update:
Retro-fitting wooden decks. Breakwater supports got mangled when I removed them making it necessary to scratch up some new ones.

All wooden decks fitted to forward superstructure.

Mk.1 Design PE also being fitted. Deck crane support plus locking mechanism fitted. Added detailing looks a lot better.

All for now,
Julian

The Blue Ridge Swastika decals arrived today. Have fitted the bow aerial recognition sign. At the moment snuggling the decal down with Mr. Decal setter solution. Looks good.
Have also been fitting the Mk.1 Design PE parts. Just like the PE I used for the Wasp.nice quality, reasonably stiff PE.
Excellent,
Cheers,
Julian

Sheesh, almost forgot. Photos underway...................

The Mk. 1 railings are magnificent. Easy to shape and they hold their shape. pre-etched bends make it easy to fit the parts. Not cheap but they do make life easier

Great to hear Mr Sallows. Custom fitted and etched-bend PE is the duck's guts and makes it so much easier to use. Eduards sets normally have railings like that as well.

Thanks Jan,
Sort of works out that if you buy a model in this scale it is wisest to wait about a year until all after market sets are available. Not as much fun as this though
You too have a happy Easter,
cheers,
Julian

Received my PE for boats and launches yesterday along with some AK interactive oil paints for this build:

The PE sheet got bashed up in transit in one corner, luckily it is still usable so I don't have to go through the return to sender song and dance. It's nice PE, looks good and isn't too "soft". I'll give you an update when I get around to fitting it. The oil paint is for weathering, along with the other AK weathering products.
More to come this weekend,
cheers,
Julian

Thank you very much Russell, I am enjoying this build enormously now that the niggles about the Trumpeter PE have been removed. Fit is fantastic.

Hi Daniel,
This is what happened to me during my Borodino build. Jan started building the Bismarck and led me astray
The AK oil-paints for ships are good. Think I need to apply them a bit thicker at first before thinning them down with a flat brush and thinner. Nice pigments though
Cheers,
Julian

Friend I never proved these oils AK. In these parts of the world they do not come!!! Jejje. I would say . this well , this one in a good balance sheet. Not very dirty Bismarck not oxidized. It expects to have the set more armed and give him a general review ... it is very big to go to finished pieces
This is a brilliant work. Michael also takes a magnificent work .... but the culprit of all that?? throw the stone and it disappeared!!! Jajajajja Someone see JAN ??? Jajajajjaja

If you have a tube of Paynes grey, white and black oils you could easily mix the colours in the AK German warship weathering set. I am just lazy
The Bismarck didn't get time to rust, some judicious rust streaks will make for more effect than the stereotype Greek rust-bucket .
Micha's build is progressing very nicely too, looks good.
Jan is probably at periscope depth following all this and will resurface when we least expect it

April 14th update:
Generally just having fun I decided to build 1 of the Arados, fit the "Modelschlachtschiffe" main hangar door and try some rust water streaks:

All for now, I have a fantastic Riesling in my collection that I have been saving for a special occasion. No time like the present to open it

Thanks Daniel,
a Riesling is a German White wine. Temperature in Holland was around 20 degrees centigrade yesterday so an excellent moment to try the Riesling. It was good

Hi guys, I“m still lurking around in the shadows of Julians great build - I have put my Bismarck on hold until the selection of aftermarket sets begin to match my needs.

When that happens, I will return with full speed ahead

Solid work Julian, a pleasure to follow!
