You probably noticed that I binned the photo etch hangar doors here Daniel. The model parts looked a lot better so I used them instead.
cheers,

Sometimes it is necessary to choose between the original of kit or PE .... in this case the kit is better

Pontos PE ......

If you can get the Pontos set for $179.95 I believe it is up there with the MK1 Design set, but the MK1 Design set has many extras the Pontos set doesn't, and the Pontos set has features the MK1 Design set doesn't.

Then you need to remember the Artwox set is coming out soon.

I also noted that the Pontos set is marked as being the basic set. Maybe they will replace the open midships bridge with a brass set up in the more advanced set.

Hard to pick which one to buy now my MK1 Design set I ordered is not coming due to being stuck in customs in the UK for months now.

That was problem Warren? British customs fouled things up, that sucks.

Hi Julian
I and my supplier have no idea why it was stopped there. Anyway I got my money back so now I have to decide which way to go again.

No as their postage costs are astronomical.. I think I will probably go with a set from Luckymodel, HLJ or maybe even Freetime Hobbies.
But there is no rush now.

Looking marvelllous Julian.

Tell me, did the superstructure wall vent and porthole detail come with the kit or is it something you had to add later? I remember my 1/350 Revell kit the LionRosar vents, portholes etc took quite a while to add those extra details.

Cheers mate

Sort of 40/60 at the moment Warren, I am redoing the superstructure and adding Mk. 1 as I go. Not as bad as it sounds actually

Julian

The advanced Pontos set is like an add on

Looks like a very good choice Andy, a comprehensive set that has some advantages over the Mk.1 set.

A very tasty alternative Warren, I love the dry transfers.
The jackstay aft is also magnificent. Don't know if the quality of the PE is as good but this is stiff competition for Mk.1.

G'Day Julian.
I have seven Pontos sets in the stash Julian and just looking at the PE in them it looks marvellous. I think my next project is a Warspite with a Pontos set so I will get a good idea of the quality then.

I prefer the slightly stiffer sorts of PE, Trumpeter PE is like chewing gum, way too soft. Eduards tends toward the softer side of the spectrum. WEM PE for the Arizona was very nice to work with. Italeri PE can be used to prop up sky-scrapers, way too stiff. Mk.1 is great to work with, holds a fold nicely and can be worked quite a bit before breaking.
Be nice to hear from you where Pontos fits in this line
Cheers,
Julian

Ahoy Julian
WEM recon it will be in stock in two weeks, but there is a UK shop has the MK1 set in stock,I really want to get going on on this build( Mrs Torchy wants rid of a f*******g great box) looking at yours and Michael's but I've waited this long,so another couple weeks can't hurt
I've just dropped out of a few campaigns which haven't started yet(too make some time) and I've got a few I really want to finish so please bear with.
I'll probably start with turrets and superstructure to combine bench space, and yes I will do a review asap

I believe I have come up with a plan...
I think the Pontos set has most of the stuff I want in it but there are a few things in the MK1 Design set that the Ponots one lacks (eg vent details). These details appear to be available in the Value Pack that you bought Mr Sallows so for the moment I will get the Pontos Basic Set and the MK1 Design value set and that should cover all the bases until the Pontos Advanced set comes out..
So in actual fact Mr Sallows you may have gone in the right direction in the first place without realising it...
Cheers all
Warren
