I thought I'd chime in to cheer ya on Julian... I'm new around here but I've been doing an ongoing Bismarck build myself since last November and have been following along here since the beginning. This is not an easy project but you are doing great, and your build is looking great even without the pricy extras we all seem to *need* for projects like this.

Good work and happy building!

Unlike Julian who will probably build a few of these Bismarck's over time I will only be building one 1/200 scale Bismarck so I am putting all my eggs in one basket and adding all the pricy extras I can!

Thanks Jason,
Feel free to post some photos of your build.
The railing issue could cause a change in approach to this build
Keep watching for the next few days.
cheers,

Where you been Warren? Out pestering the livestock again?
I don't think I will be building a few "Bissie's", too many other things to build around. The Trumpie railings are p*****g me off big time. I might even be tempted to try something else.
When are you going to start building one of the Bismarck's from the piles in your carport mate?
cheers,
Julian

I'd hate to tell y'all how much I spent on my Bismarck... with more $$$$ to come too.

I also built the 1/200 Arizona and yea, Trumpeter PE is not the friendliest stuff in the world to work with!

I see Eduard released PE railings for this kit; they wouldn't cost an arm and a leg like the Mk1 set and might be a better option than the kit railings.

Anyway, here's a couple pics of my build so far:

I replaced all the portholes and am using the Mk1 set + the Trumpeter detail-up set.

I've got a fairly long and involved build log going on at another site with more details... I don't want to get in the way of the excellent builds here but it's always fun to share in the joys and pains of this kit with the rest of the Internet Bissy Builders.

I'm aiming for winter 1940, after the radar/rangfinders were installed (minus the unit on the conning tower, that is) but before the Bismark got her Baltic camo paintjob.

Ok. They give birth the filming. Cut!!!! Jajja Hi Jason, welcome!! I do not deal, this cover of wood is MK1 only Value Pack or in the DX Pack ...... and the railings are included!!! This way that solved topic. I do not understand this comment " I see Eduard released PE railings for this kit; they wouldn't cost an arm and to leg like the Mk1 set and might be to better option than the kit railings. "
Jason these doing a beautiful work. Thank you for sharing it.

Just saying it would be inexpensive to buy new railings as they are offered seperate from Eduard. Es demasiado carro a comprar el Mk1 set. (It's very expensive to buy the Mk1 set)

Thanks for the compliment too!

Hi Julian

Can't start until the PE set gets here.

The wooden deck sets for the Bismarck are around the $60 mark alone so paying $160 for the complete MK1 Set is a huge bargain to me.

Don't get the full set Julian as you will not get the value out of it. You have already built most of the superstructure so putting lots of the PE stuff in place may not be an option for you.

I have never had any issues with Trumpeter PE, but I am sure the Eduard railings will be good. Fitted railings are always the best option. Just be careful with the Eduard stuff though as sometimes they spread their railings over two frets. Look before you leap or so to speak.

Both builds looking good.

Cheers
Warren

It's leftovers from a strange weather phenomenon you folks down in Oz have probably never heard of. It's cold, slick, wet awful stuff that nobody can stand, a bit like Vegemite except more white and melty. Thank god spring is almost here!

Kagero's 3D Bismarck arrived today. Orders placed, notice from the postal service that a package is waiting for me at the post office, (will have to wait until Thursday), and my other order is underway from the UK. Started stripping parts off my Bismarck build yesterday to add new goodies.
Sheesh, might even manage a review or two the next few days.
The build has suddenly become rather interesting

Got that right Started reinvesting in this project
Sub-contractors in Germany and the United Kingdom delivering parts as we speak. Also some more orders to be placed
If you go, go for broke my dear old grandmother used to say Now that I have started ordering odds and ends I might as well enjoy it.
Cheers Daniel , the fun is about to start

My motto is if you are only ever going to build one of something go all out with the extras... if mine ever get here...

That Kagero book is pretty good eh Julian. Mine arrived about a month ago along with four others.

The book is nice on details but lacking in knowledge of the colour schemes used. At the moment having fun reading while enjoying a drop of brandy,
cheers,
Julian
How are sending your parts? By long distance duck?
P.s. did you check out my answer to your remark about the Admiral's walk on the Varyag?

Well I ordered it in January, it was supposed to turn up in Feruary and after that length of time I gave up and got a refund. Then the set came in in early March and the proprietor offered the set to me at the original price... so I ordered it again.. Now I have to wait for it to get here from Blighty. Is OK as I have tons of other kits to build while I wait.

I will have a look at the Varyag reply sir.

Cheers
Warren
