Hi Warren,

Hope you enjoyed the river cruise.

Looking good with the main deck down.

cheers.

Si

Hi Simon.

Even though one of the days was miserable weather-wise yes it was a good cruise. Only forty passengers so much smaller than the huge one in the photo. Just whet our appetites for another South Pacific one next year.

It has taken a long time to get to this point. Now I can start with all the fiddly diecast parts on the decks. I was going to paint the non-slip areas green but I read it was green, blue, grey and other colours as well and called semtex. I may do a little bit green and see how it looks. Might add a dash of colour.

Cheers Simon

Hello everyone.

A productive weekend on the Snowberry, but I was starting to get a bit down over a perceived lack of progress. I put my PE constructs up on a high shelf out of the way and forget they are there when looking at how much I have done. I thought I might put the brass bits in place..

First up one of the three ladders..

Then some items on the fore deck..

And just behind the blast shield...

And on top of the engine area..

The rear of that area..

On the after deck..

Then back to the foredeck..

Then the gold collection..

Then I started glueing deck fixtures in place..

The wave breaker is only sitting on the deck,,

And that's it. I built a few more PE things as well but they can wait until another time.

Cheers
Warren

Ah ha! I see bits going on the deck!

Exceptional!

A very nice river cruiser too, Warren! Not a lot of freeboard in the old gals, but a charming way to ride the Murray!

good thing too, mate. You can reach down with your hand and put it into the ahem, 'water', whilst sitting on deck.

An exceptional way to travel though, isn't it?

Ahoy Shipmates!!

I is back with a little more progress on the Revell Corvette.

First up another finished assembly in the 'raw'..

It has since been painted RN White, but I am going to paint the inside a different colour, th same grey I used on the decks... because I have not got a good painting guide so I am guessing..

Then we get to the items I have been working on all over the weekend, lockers. lockers and more lockers. None of those little tiny squares of plastic in this scale! No sirree it is big and bold ones like this lot..

Hmmm.. I hope this goes under something and that gap is there for a reason. Haven't had a good look yet..

I can't really figure out why you would want a locker that is open to the air an a ship..

Then we come to the next part of the project..

I can't really do anymore on the deck fittings until my new WEM RN White gets here as the Lifecolor White doesn't cover well when brushed, and there are lots of vents that go on the deck that I won't spray with the Lifecolor White as you need too high a pressure to atomise the paint properly and not clog the nozzle like it does on the smaller airbrushes.

Something a little simpler hopefully. These are the cast parts..

Lots of cleaning up like most of the cast parts in these sets..

That's it for now.

I thought I would leave you with one final photo of all the glues and some of the bending tools I use..

Cheers
Warren

Hi Warren,

Nice progress Mate, the 4" looks an interesting build.

Long time since I was at sea, but I don't recall a locker like that, even on the older (50's / early 60's built) tankers I sailed on, must be for some mysterious military purpose.

Cheers.

Warren,

Very impressive work. That is quite an array of sub assemblies. Looking forward to seeing this continue.

Hi Simon.

I have been reliably informed that the Corvette's had no refrigeration so those lockers were used for food.

Cheers mate

Hi there Dave.

There are lots more to build... I still have the aforementioned gun, three or four other guns, the bridge, the depth charges the hedgehog.. the list goes on and on and on. Good thing is that I think the hull and decks are the largest job by a long way. Oh I forgot all the life boats etc..

Cheers

Hi Warren,

Yup, found my copy of the AOTS on HMS Agassiz this afternoon, it shows beef and vegetable lockers which had mesh sides, so food lockers they are.

No wonder I hadn't seen such lockers in my time at sea, even the elderly ladies had fridges.

Cheers.

Great work Warren!! I can imagine that there's lots and lots more stuff in this scale, but you're doing a fantastic job!!

Interesting story on the lockers, though - I was not aware they did not have any refrigeration - even the German WWII subs had some, if insufficient and way to small... Must have been fun to be out at see patrolling with a Flower corvette....

Cheers

Fun you and I would not want to experience I think. And from what I have read their sea-keeping properties were not all that flash either.

A few more photos. First up one of the diecast vents supplied in the set..

Very little cleanup required and look much better than the kit vents.

I received my WEM Colourcoats RN White today. Compare it's shade with the Lifecolor paint..

The WEM White appears to be much warmer than the other one. Of course both of them are probably totally correct as I know paint varied in shade quite a bit over the course of the war. I think I will be using them both in different areas so the difference between the two won't bw quite as obvious... I hope..

Cheers

Some amazing work so far Warren!! A real treat to follow along with!

The slight contrast in the color might actually work to an advantage at least from my perspective. Have FUN!!
