Hello everyone.

Well the funeral is over. Memories remembered. But I still have this bloody virus that doesn't want to go away.

But enough of all that. I have got some stuff done over that past week or so and I thought I would share it with you.

I am now building the 4 in Gun and it's associated paraphernalia that sat on the foredeck of the Corvette and made submarine's lives a real pain in the butt if they were on the surface. First up are the stanchions that hold up the wires running around the edge of the stand..

Two pieces laminated together then the attaching bracket attached to the base. The holes for the wire had to be drilled out as well.

Then we have the same stanchions and the two ladders that go on either side of the stand..

Each of the ladders is in lots of pieces you need to assemble. I use CA glue rather than solder here.

Next we have the stand itself. First up you need to attach its support underneath..

Notice the solder around the edge were I attached the edge of the stand. Not too hard if you have a nice big soldering iron and some of the solder paste.

Some more details of the stand..

Here is the stand with the wire mesh surround installed. I put it in place with CA glue..

Then I sprayed it the RB White colour then masked it up and sprayed the grey on the deck of the stand..

It is still wet in that picture. This morning I removed the masking..

Next up I need to attach the stand to the foredeck then I need to manufacture and attach 36 of these..

That is a 10mm square it is sitting in so it gives you some ides of the size. This could be some PE that will finally stop me but we will see how the next few go. Or I might be lucky and find the 3D printed ones I saw earlier..

cough, cough.. gurgle, sniff..

Cheers
Warren

Warren,

First I hope the virus leaves soon. Fabulous work on your corvette. Your PE work is amazing. Can't wait to see all this come together.

I have been following this build for a while. You must be nuts to take on this build with all the PE details involved. Lots of luck.

Thanks Darrell... (I think...)

Well I no longer have to build those shell holders. I found a site on the web who make 3D printed items. I had found it before but forgot about it but I ordered 2 sets of the shell holders just to save my sanity...

Well, here we go with the last update for the weekend.

First up I have installed the 4 inch gun platform..

I had to take off the wave-breakers and the davit, and do lots of trimming of the base, but it is in place, and the wave-breakers and davit platform in place.

Then I started on the gun itself..

Then the base the gun sits on..

And that's it for now. Next update may not be for a while as I only have this week before I leave for my annual road trip to the Supercheap 1000 at Bathurst.

This year we are going via Brisbane so I can pick up the 1/35 trains I built for my Father-In-Law. My Mother-In-Law doesn't want anything to happen to them so I have to devise a way to get them home via Bathurst, about 2600km in total. We shall see.

Cheers for now
Warren

Warren,

that's quite some progress there - looks great (as always ) - the base for the 4" is looking outstanding!!
Looking forward to see it having it's gun!

Hi Warren,

The gun platform looks great in place. and the gun itself looks a nice piece of kit.

Good luck with the ready use Ammo.

Cheers.

As you can see I made one, but that is all I am making!! I threw money at the problem and found some 3D printed ones. The brass ones are just crazy! And I thought 1/350 20mm cannon were bad!

As I was mounting the gun in its cradle one of the side bits broke off the base. Oh well, back to Mr Super Glue.. :-)

Thanks Jan

Thanks Si.

I dodged the ready ammo bullet and ordered some 3D printed ones. Will be interesting to see how they go.

Cheers mate

A very quick update...

My new improved anchor chain came the other day..

Now all I need to do is stain it black.

Then I got a few of the brackets for the gun shield bent up and soldered..

I chose to solder these for added strength.

Cheers all

I like the chain. I used my wife's old necklace chain for the cross braces.

It is a bit of an improvement. Didn't cost too much. Still debating about hawse pipes...

Great looking chain replacement Warren! That deck is really coming together nicely!! Best of luck retrieving the trains! Worst part of the hobby seems to be transportation! I'm sure you'll work things out!

Warren,
I finished the entire bow section, and noted that I could see past the chains, right through the hawse opening in the deck and into the open bow below-- that was aggravating considering all the detail work I'd put into the ship (as you are doing). I don't know why Matchbox/Revell designed it without some type of divider or view block in the bow. I suppose a simpler way to do it would be to forget trying to do the entire hawse pipe, and just run a drinking straw or some suitable tube down through the deck around the chain opening end just enough to block the "see through" effect, since the anchor does a fair job of blocking the bow end. It's been a few years since I built the model, but in my research I think I saw some photos which show the chains don't lie directly on the deck when the anchor is up, they come out of the hawse openings and are taught right up to the capstan off the deck. With all the lovely detail you're adding, this is really going to be a "showboat", I cant wait to see the finished Flower! VR, Russ

Ahoy Warren

Nice work this far.

Those stanchions look nice.

Where did you get them from if you don't mind me asking?

They look great are they easy to work with.

I thought a set maybe good for a future S100 project as they are in 1/72nd scale.

Enjoy Bathhurst I will look for you in the crowd while I am watching it on the television here in New Zealand.

Cheers

Trains retrieved in one piece.. well almost perfectly, the WR 360 C12 had a few little parts bent which I re-glued this morning.

BR52 and BR86 had no damage at all.
