Finally got back to doing some actual modelling.

Sub assemblies that have been sitting around for a while had some TS 81 shot them.

The ADO positions that go on the upper bridge consist f a turned brass pedestal & two small etched components, keeping it simple, fitted the pedestals to the smallest etched component whilst it was still on the fret.

All six with their top sections fitted.

Some deck colour going o the bridge so it can be built up.

needs tidying up yet.

More soon.

For this campaign I'm going to build the HMS Prince of Wales, however mine will be the pre-dreadnought of that name. I will be using the Combrig kit #70270 HMS Prince of Wales, Battleship, Great Britain, 1904.

Thanks

Thanks Michael, like most things, just practice. Nice subject for you too, looking forward to seeing some progress on that.

A small update on the Duke.

The paintwork on the 5.25" directors finished.

The ADO positions fitted to the upper bridge, along with the bridge roof and the main DCT,

5.25" directors fitted, along with last bits of the wind deflectors around the bridge front,

Hello all. I haven't posted lately but I have been working on my ship. I am also very excited by the continuing awesome work by the group.

So to date I have attempted to paint my wooden deck to get somewhat close to those wooden ones. let me know what you think. I have assembled the superstructure and started to paint it.

I painted it Humbrol cream and then gave it a brown wash. Once well dry I dry brushed it with buff.

Tom, your deck looks good. I thought it was an applied wooden deck at first.

Si, I am amazed at your ability to juggle so many projects at once. I am trying to juggle two identical Panther G's with little success. As always, your progress is breath taking and she is coming along nicely.

Cheers all! Some great work here, very inspirational and educational. I am late to the game; recently moved to a new home and have yet to fully unpack and set up a workbench in my new basement.

I will change my entry to something simple and OOB: the Trumpeter 1:700 Jean Bart

I know the kit has some accuracy issues, like the painting guide calling for grey instead of wood/tan for the deck and overall hull shape. But I just want to "build her up" and finish the kit, get my modelling mojo back.

I am one of those "hobby returnees" so, any feedback or suggestions always appreciated.

Will post some WIPs next week.

Cheers

Thanks Dave,

I think being a little round the bend helps, also working long hours and a busy family life restricts my time at the bench, therefore working on several things at once means I do not waste time twiddling my thumbs waiting for paint / glue to dry.

Nice subject James, do like the look of of the two big quad turrets at the same end,

Update on the Duke to follow shortly.

Getting the rear 5.25 director position finished off. The forward end lacks detail, doors and porthole added.

A missing vent and piece of structure added. Just needs a ladder and a handrail.

Other lower superstructure ladders added.

And the 5.25" turrets glued in place (before I loose or break one)

The lower section of the mainmast under construction.

Must have lost the spreader bar between the tripod legs, however a bit of 20 though brass rod and the problem is solved. all the boats test fitted in place.

looking forward to getting those glued down.

Thanks Dave,

A slow and steady task, The boat deck is a bit of a tight fit, hence getting all the gear on there before fixing the boats.

I do note the stbd cutter has had a chock fall over, easy fix, but will be glad to get the boats fixed down,

Read the whole thread thru. Very impressive builds to say the least. I have a POW w/Pontos......this thread has certainly got me peeked to break it out of the stash. In the mean time, looking forward to more of this most excellent warkmanship.
I do have a question? I want to do the Prince of Whales as it appeared during 24 May 1941......did the turrents have Poms Poms or the system as come with the Pontos Set which I believe has the vessel outfitted as she was during her Pacific Tour. Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi Rick,

As per Raven & Roberts, PoW was outfitted with 1 UP mount on the roof of B turret, 2 UP mounts on the roof of Y turret, and a single MkIII bofors on the quarterdeck.

The UP mounts are fold up etch jobs in the Pontos set, the bofors comes with the kit.

Hope that helps.

On with the mainmast, the starfish added.

Topmast added, the pontos set includes a fold up etched swivel fitting for the yard arm, which has also been fitted along with the etched rigging.

There is a small platform just below the radar, on both masts, this is a very clever piece of etch, the platform & braces all done in one piece, one shown folded and one on the fret.

The mast, sans one ladder and a radar assembled.

poor photograph, sorry, but additional detail fitted to the forward side of the after superstructure.

mast & after superstructure sprayed.

After superstructure fixed in place,

Mast and three small motor boats in place,

and all the boats final secured.

getting bridge fixed in place is the next job.

Small update.

Searchlights, a total of six, two on the flag deck, two on each funnel, The pair on the flag deck need to be fitted prior to the upper bridge being fixed down. The Pontos etch provides parts to improve the Tamiya parts.

Folding the frame.

Folded.

The original compared with the upgraded.

More soon.

Si, the DoY is looking great, cant wait till she is ready for commissioning. Definitely like the new look of the searchlights. The PE really makes them pop.

Funnel Grill assembly completed.

meantime all 6 searchlights completed.

Forward funnel with searchlights and grill added and painted.

Forward funnel fitted along with searchlights and signal lamps on flag deck.

Wow Si!

Looking great!

My dockyard workers have all gone on holiday except the paint masker! Considering I'm building the DoY's sister ship, and seeing your progress, I'm getting a lot nervous about completing by the campaign's close
