Hi Shipmates

I finally had a good chance to review the package kindly sent by MIke.

I reckon MIke has got to be one of the real good guys of this forum as the English say "a true gentleman". Here in New Zealand we say a "top guy". Mikes generosity and kindness is without equal in my view.

I have the Fujimi IJN Isuzu 1/700 to build plus as a bonus the Hasegawa IJN Asashio 1/700 as well.

I am really looking forward to building both.

Regards

Sean

I’ll have to second that. While I didn’t receive anything from him for this campaign (Of course he did offer to send me one to go along with the kit I plan on building. I just have to much lined up right now to fit more in.) I have received items from him in the past on 2 occasions.
He’s a great man and I highly encourage anyone interested to take him up on the above offer.

Thanks again Mike for all you’ve done.

Just got my model order today and here the kit.

Sadly she’ll be going into the closet until Christmas so I won’t be able to get any other pictures until then.

Can hardly wait to get started on this one. (Being one of my favorite ships and all.)

Patience, my good man. You'll get your chance to build the target ship...I mean aircraft carrier. :-)

Can't wait to see her!

Gidday Shipmates

Brief update on the Fujimi IJN Isuzu 1/700 - started work on the hull pieces, cleaning up etc.

Boy I forgot how small 1/700 is.

:-) :-) It sure is! Looking forward to seeing her. Btw, isn't the Isuzu a destroyer?

Gidday Kenny

Worked away on it again yesterday man its hard cleaning up those 1/700 anti aircraft guns.

Sorry I aint no expert on the IJN (or any Navy) in fact but I have seen it described as a "Nagara class light cruiser" not sure if this equats to a destroyer.

Hi guys! Sorry no updates for a few weeks, but med school is Hell on free time... I've been slowly working on the hull, which is taking shape nicely. Had a few setbacks like any scratch build hull, but she's really starting to look like a ship! I've started to put the heavy fibreglass down, using West System epoxy (so she won't go mushy during extended sailing). I have accquired the drive motors, and pump(which will likely discharge underwater so as not to spoil the effect). I have farmed out the task of casting my main turrets from blanks to a friend with more free time.

The props, ah, the props... I'm using 1/8" driveshafts with real stuffing tubes, they have grease fittings and everything! The props are 1.25" 4-blade brass props which saw previous sea service on my HMS Invincible which is currently assigned to the "top of my bookcase" picket duty. The ESC will allow me to vary the prop speed for dignified sailing

Anyhow, not getting heavily into details until I get the hull and deck together. So that's my update Have a great weekend!

Ahoy mates! I've been working on the radio set for the LCC. I'm using Verlinden's radio set.
The headset is scratchbuilt using 26 gauge wire, styrene rod and masking tape.

Here's the back side. The wiring is done with 30 gauge computer wire and mouse wire stripped and twisted.

Too bad you won't see it after the armored cabin is installed.

Ahoy Alex!

The Yamashiro was painted Yokosuka gray. What this means is that is the color gray the Yokosuka shipyard was using. To a color sample, visit this site.

Shipcamouflage.com

Snyder and Short also carry WEM color coat paint, which is an exact match to that color. That is also available at Ship Camouflage

I hope this helps.

I don't know. You may have to mix it with Tamiya colors.

Ahoy mates! So, how are the builds going? I've got the base colors on the exterior of the LCC and the wood base done. I'll get some photos uploaded tonight. All that's left to do is boat numbers and Knox diamond on the bow and weathering.

later...Gator

I'd suggest Tamiya's German Grey, lightened a little.

Hey guys. Slow but sure work on the USS Heermann from Taffy 3. Frustrating at times, had to break open the kit I was going to use for the USS Kidd to replace some parts I fouled up 'cause of the injured fingers.

I started the Trumpy Sullivans too - gonna build her as a late war USS Gatling, which my Uncle served on. When she is done, I'm going to give the model to him. I've used tons of putty so far - seams everywhere!!

Just an FYI - it looks like you are building her with the 2 quad 40mm guns in place of the forward torpedo tube. Heermann never had the late war emergency AA upgrade, so she didn't have the quad 40mm amidships. She kept her two sets of torpedo tubes til the end of the war.

I signed up for this campaign, but with a six month old at home and some other projects in the works, I won't be able to get moving on something until next year. Heck - I still have to finish Amagi for the flattops campaign!!

Thanks for the heads up Martin. I've got too many Leyte projects as it is. I may just go back to my original plan and build the Kidd as she looks today. Anyhoo, I've still got the 1/700 Hornet to do (Essex class) and the Kongo.

You certainly seem up to your eyeballs in builds!! And, BTW, they are all coming out nicely...I especially like the landing craft. Good stuff...please keep the pictures coming.

Ok an update photo, lots more still to be done only the base coat applied.

And yes the background is a set of plans for HMS Ariadne.

Oppps! the item infront of the bridge should not be there, thats the gun director that I placed on the ship so I wouldn't lose it.
