Hey Lim, my vote is for the Claxton. That was Arliegh Burke's tin can. The Aulick is a pet project of mine. My wife's grandfather helped build that ship at Consolidated Shipyards about 30 minutes from our house. It was very special to him because he had to redsign one of the gun mounts that became an official USN fix for the mount. He talked often about his days at the shipyard and Orange, Texas with me.
Hey Sean, get to work you slacker! :-) :-)

So, how is everyone's build going? I've got my Hornet's hanger deck done. I'm going to get the rest of the hull done today and put some paint on it.
Sound off you guys! Gunny, how's that CVL going? Stevo, sitrep on the Yamato please? Hey Lim, have you picked a destroyer?

Yamato is on hiatus. Finally saw Keith Magee yesterday at the meeting. He has my casts of the 6 inch guns done and has been making metal tubes for them, but forgot to bring them in. He's going to make the other 6 tubes for the foreward and aft battery and will bring them to the shop and stash them there so if we don't see each other for another 3 months, I won't get held up. I'll probably paint the deck and hull this week if the wether stabilizs a bit and quits raining . Rain has been light and sporadic here. About every 5 days or so we get some, the it warms up keeping a high humidity level going.

Still haven’t ordered my Zuikaku but hope to be doing so next weekend.
Hope to have it started by the end of November.

Cool guys. I'm hoping to be back at the work bench next weekend after losing an argument with my table saw. Ouch!
Still got all 10 fingers with no permanent damage. Anybody want an old table saw? Free to a good home.

Man, from what I remember in wood shop back in the 60's was that we were never ever allowed to operate one. Glad to hear that you still have 10 working fingers

Well, this was my Dad's old shop saw. I don't know if they took off the blade guard or it never had one, but this saw is a gone goose for a brand new saw with all the guards attached.

ooooh gator, good to hear your fingers are still there. I had a small incident during the weekend while playing cricket, and for 5 minutes I thought I might have put my left pinky out of action for a month. (I'm a musician, every digit counts)
claxton is the most interesting choice, I agree. except for the walkaround modification on her bridge, not sure I have the skills to scratch that. will have to finish my pesky tank for the modern tanks campaign and will launch into this campaign full steam.
if not claxton, probably cony

Hey Gator!
How's your wound healing? I do believe you may be eligible for a modeling purple heart decoration for this one!

Just kidding, mate, but you are VERY lucky to have not lost anything in that accident. . .flesh vs. fast moving sharp objects, well, not much of a match.
My CVL is moving slow, man, trying to juggle many projects as always, but any progress is progress, right? (I keep telling myself this, the deeper in work that I get! :-) )
Keep modeling (and healing!)

Hi Gator,
Glad to hear the saw is ok.... sorry your finger is ok :-)
What with your back sounds like you are fighting the campaign not just building it.
My build is on hold until end of November when I will pick up the paint at the big (in UK) show. I'm also going to look out for some pe for the Ariadne may have to be generic RN.
Ciao

Just keep plugging away at it Gunny, it'll get there. I'll be back at the bench Friday. Tomorrow I can switch from the bunny ears dressings to band aids. I may even try painting my a/c for the hanger deck tonight.

WEM very likely has some generic stuff. I believe Tom's does also.
The saw has been saved. I was able to get a blade guard off of an old saw here at work. It's just like mine, so I'll get my brother in law to install it for me.

Does anyone know if the anti-skid walkways were painted a different color on US DDs in WW2. Also, I see that there was deck camo designed with the different measures, was this actually used? If so, that would be sooooo cool.
I got another USS The Sullivans 40% off at Hobby Lobby. I'm going to build the USS Heermann of Taffy 3 fame. I'll start it tomorrow. I'm keeping it simple due to the injured paw.

Hey guys. Slow but sure work on the USS Heermann from Taffy 3. Frustrating at times, had to break open the kit I was going to use for the USS Kidd to replace some parts I fouled up 'cause of the injured fingers.
First picture is the completed hull with the sub assemblies not glued on.

Second photo is the reworked hawse pipe. I drilled it out and replaced it with aluminum tubing straight through to the hull sides.

I'll sand and prime today and hope to get the hull and main deck painted and camouflaged this weekend.
Here's my handicap bulding this thing. The tip of the index finger is broken but not displaced.
Ouch
What is everyone else up to?

Ok. I got the hull painted and I had a little surprise when I took off the masks. It seemed some of the red oxide came through the 5-L light gray. I like it. It looks beat up, which the Heerman was. She was still in the 1943 outfit according to the Navy photos. I'd like to know what you guys think.

Thanks Jacob, but the more I look at it the more it bugs me.
I'll do a good sand and repaint.
For now, I'm working on this:

I laid paint down on the Yamato deck and didn't like what i still saw. I went back and trimmed a couple of removed gun mounts a little more and worked a bit on the deck to deck joints. The repainted. A vast improvement, but with that carved out piece of deck I realize it is going to discerable to the eye still and that it is about the best I can get it with the tools I have. So the light tan deck is painted and the lower hull red is also done. I figure to go in and start painting the deck mold ons the dark gray and start gluing in the small fixture pieces. Once I get the tubes and extra 5" gun mounts from Keith....it's assembly time. Should have this puppy complete by Christmas.

Hi,
I just enroll in this campaing. It's going to be my first ship, so it's gonna be a new learning
I talked with Blade48mrd and if anything is good with him, I gonna built the Haruna. Lot of research since that I don't know a lot of thing on boat and his history. Good time to learn I think :-)
