Oppps! the item infront of the bridge should not be there, thats the gun director that I placed on the ship so I wouldn't lose it.

Could have fooled me! :-)

Hi Kenny

My Isuzu is languishing a little with the festive season and a busy old time etc a little focus has been lost.

I will be back into it shortly and update you with a photo as soon as I can loosen my wifes grasp on her new digital camera.

Regards

Sean

Here we go.
I’ve now got the Zuikaku in my possession.

Once I get some good pictures of the parts for a review I’ll get to work on her.

Looks like the building part may be simple and shouldn’t take much time. The painting part may be another story with all the deferent colors.

And with it being a waterline kit I may just go ahead and stick it on a base depending on how much time she takes to build.

She also comes with little clear plastic planes so I may not need to buy aftermarket ones after all.

One little question for you guys who no more about ship models. Why are there 2 metal plates for inside the bottom of it? The instructions are completely in Japanese and all I can think of is to make me think twice before throwing it against the wall when I have fit problems.

Ahoy Jacob!

As far as I know, because of this being waterline, the plates help give the model some weight. They really help suggle it down in to a water base.
If you need some help with the deck colors, I know of someone who can make you a set of masks cheap.

Ahoy there...

Well I still don't know what I am going to build, but I can say the following from current entries:
Lucianno and the HMS Ariadne: Execellent Choice of subject and it comming out nice!
Gator and the usual multitude of entries (you work very fast, for my standards!!): Excellent choice (DD and LCC) with a emphasys on the LCC and the custom built display! A+ on that!!

Congrats to all of you who already are making full steam ahead

No progress over the very short holidays. The ships boats and twin 20mm armoured mounts arrived just before Christmas so as soon as I can get back to her I will be able to make some progress.

And thanks Skipper for the comments.

Getting frustrated by still not getting those additional triple 6 inch batteries. Keith has just been so busy and of course getting the stuff to me slips by the wayside. Hopefully with the kids not playing kiddee baseball and football now he'll show up at a meeting and I can see and talk to him. I did go ahead and sort of finish up the hull. Added all the little doo-dad pieces, a metal anchor chain and painted the entire hull. Probably get around to painting all the superstructure, gunturrets, cranes etc this weekend. It really looks great when I set everything up, just missing those side pieces and putting on the deck railing which will be the last thing I do.

Heres the first progress shot of the Zuikaku.

(May be better yo go into my gallery to get the bigger picture.)

Windows are drilled out and I’m adding the walls around the hanger deck.
Don’t think shell be a long build. Things seem relatively simple.

WAA_HOO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just got word from Keith that my castings are at the shop. Ben (wild card) and I are planning a field trip this week, so I'll be in business. I think we miscomunicated ad I'll have 12 of them, so if anyone plans to do the conversion, I'll have some spares to contribute. We'll wait until after i see what I'm actually receiving.

I've just finished the Chikuma 1/700 that I volunteered to build for the Leyte Gulf campaign. So.... to whom do I report the completion of said vessel. It is, as they say, ready to go in harm's way.

Hey guys, here's the latest on the LCP(R) control craft. All I have left is to mount the prop. I wish I knew where to get some rope fenders.

Hi Kenny
She looks good - I would only make some more highlights on the edges (it could be of the photo...)
AndI think it's a good way for trying Mark's Weaving Rope Fenders Feature
Either that or try and get some copies of the Italeri parts - they are good (even considering they are plastic)

Once the batteries charge I’ve got some new pictures to post of the Zuikaku.

I must admit she may take longer then I thought. Instructions suck and the fit is horrible.
Now I’ve discovered that I didn’t leave room to add 2 pieces I didn’t know about...

All well I’ll try to figure something out.

I'm just finishing up my LVT4A which I hope fits with the theme of this campaign? It is a landing craft designed to go from the ship to the beach and also provide some firepower.

I eventually want to build a WW2 Destroyer but I don't know if I will be able to complete one by October since I have another project on my bench at the moment as soon as I finish up my LVT...

Thanks,
Gary

Any naval vessel that was present at the Battle of Leyte Gulf, from any nation. This includes surface combatants, submarines, landing craft and auxilleries. All scales are accepted.

Sorry Gary. The LVT is considered a piece of armor. But, you got nine months to build that destroyer.
