Retrying with a photo this time. Have thrown my hat into the ring. I'll be building the Resin Shipyards 1/350 Oberon Class submarine as HMCS ONONDAGA which served the Canadian Navy proudly from 1967 until 2000. There is a bit of a family connection with this boat, my father joined her in build and served in her until 1973. I joined her 20 years later, serving in her from 1993 until 1997.

O.R.P. Orzel Mirage 1/400
Well, I'm back at the bench now the nights are drawing in and the north wind is blowing.
I was trying to create a neat clean build of this kit. As neat as some of the work that is demonstrated on this forum. Yesterday was spent arsing on with the decals from hell which are supplied for the plimsole line and today as i used masking tape to secure the jump wires (stretched sprue), without thinking I laid it over the decals and when I pulled the tape off, yup you've guessed it, the decal came off too. DOH! stupid stupid stupid!!! grrr. an elementary error.
Today I removed the offending decals, masked and hand painted the plimsole line (is that the correct term?)
So here's a couple of pictures, Nearly but not quite there, a flag on a pole and some very light, subtle weathering or washes to bring out what little detail there is.
Please don't point out the decals with the number and name plaque are the wrong way round, I know.....its what comes of not looking at ones references.

I would point out, I usually build subs with all the periscopes, masts snorkels etc on display and there are other bits for the sail/conning tower supplied with the kit but nearly all my references showed the boat with very little except the mast as modelled. The sub appears to have been modified in its short career with the upper part of the sail really cleaned up of paraphanalia & clutter later in its deployment

Cheers
Adam

Great choice, Tom. Very cool to have that kind of history and connection with a build.

Looks good so far, Keith. Looking forward to see more.

Keith, nice paintwork, its going to look sweet with some weathering!

Adam, nice and clean Orzel - do you plan on a wash to bring out the details a bit ?

Hi Jan
Yes I will be doing a little weathering. There isn't much detail on the model but washes would just make it a little more interesting. Oh and I will see if I can get some liquid glaze across the ports but they are quite small

Cheers
Adam

Keith – Really nice job; camo looking good and look forward to your base!

Adam – Good job and info on the Orzel; I have that one in my stash and made notes of what you found re: masts.

I am working on my 1:700 ARII Trafalgar. One word: do NOT get this kit! Fit is horrible and the conning tower is very inaccurate. I am now attempting some scratchbuild to modify the con tower a bit to at least resemble the real thing.

I will hopefully post some progress pics in a bit; wife left the dig cam at our daughter’s college on her last visit, so I need to find another cam to take pics.

ORP ORZEL Mirage 1/400

There comes a point at which you say, 'Done!' finished. After some mild washes to try to accent what very little detail there is on the kit and putting it on a base, its time to stop and take stock. I will apply what I have learned to the next kit.

So without further ado and applying what I learned about Image resizer in another thread here is the finished model, not perfect, a models builder knows the flaws better than anyone. Doing a group build has been an interesting and slightly addictive process. It is also a good way of deciding what to build next. The Big Tubes, sorry Fish, campaign beckoning...

And for the first time I used a liquid glaze

The glue'n'glaze does seem to work.

Now where to put it? (sorry about the poor lighting)

here?

Here?

HERE!

I might move it again later and these and other subs may make a trek to a local ( or fairly local ) model show next year

Cheers

Gentlemen-

I was planning on finishing a Westland Wyvern Torpedo carrying plane within that time. However, life plays differently.
As my club and I will be exhibiting at Telford this year, I decided to get another project finished and put zthe Wyvern back on the shelf with just the cockpit and a few subassemblies finished.
I am returning to building my
DKM Leipzig.
Still, there are another 24 days until this campaign ends. Still time to get a small sub or boat on the way and finished.
Keep up the good work.
Cheers,
Guido

Thanks guys - I like the figures as they lend some scale to the model - the Seehund is a relatively big midget, which I think the figures helps showing.

Jan – Beautiful work as usual. Congrats on the finish!

I am still working on my ARII 1:700 Trafalgar; basically putti-ed over (is that a word? ) the whole conning tower so that it at least resembles the real deal. Some minor detailing and will prime this week. Should be done on time; still have to work on the presentation.
