Guido,
Many thanks for all the help you've given! Also, thank you for extending the Campaign. Hopefully, I can use the extra time to set the Akula in her proper diorama!
Just a question regarding campaigns in general, if I may ask. Do campaigns actually end on the posted End Date or the day BEFORE the posted date? I'm only asking because I'm new at this and want to know for future reference. For example, the original End Date for "Stand By Torps!" was November 1, but it seems to have actually ended (pre-extension!) on October 31. Is this standard procedure?
This is the first Group Build I've ever been a part of and, I must tell you, it's been fun! You guys are amazing artists!!
Many thanks!
Daniel Chavez

Thanks Bruce, didn´t look like kitchen foil to me, so i thought it was some kind of casting/scuplting material I didn´t know. Looks great and I like the darkness and depth you have achieved.
Joe - sharp paint job on that VII, are you aiming for a pre-war boat ?

Gentlemen-
as you have read above Mark and I have agreed that the campaign should be extended for another month to give opportunity to wrap up some builds, that may end up on the “almost-made-it-shelf” otherwise. With 6 month duration this campaign was quite tightly knit from the start and I am very pleased when looking at the click-count, reply count and especially the output in finished models so far.
Bruce – Sorry, but this is exactly the type of voodoo that I’ll never understand about IT. There is a good reason I let my wife study the instructions for technical equipment.
James – I am looking forward to your contribution
Joe – that is some sharp modelling! I am looking forward to see this little masterpiece completed.
Daniel – Now take your time to finish your build. The high message traffic is quite usually for the final 48 hours of a campaign. As the campaign leader I understand my job is to keep things going. With almost 40 participants it’s not quite easy to establish a clear picture of the status. So I keep pushing for new and replies BEFORE the campaign I officially over For future campaign participation, please keep in mind that the deadline is set for 2400 hours on the closing date specified on the campaign main sheet. Usually Mark will lock down the thread shortly afterwards. This the way we do it here on MSW, Armorama and Aerosacle have permanently ongoing campaigns as far as I can see. But you know: “When in Rome…”
Gentlemen, you have another 30 days and I hope that we will see more entries by that time.
Have a nice holiday!
Cheers,
Guido

Ahoy Jan,
Well now that the campaign has been extended, I may use the extra time
to present her in pre-war paint scheme.
It will certainly give her some extra color.
Cheers,
Joe

Thanks guys, I was going to build an E Boat but went with the Trumpeter 1:144 USS Gato instead...Not my best work but I enjoyed the kit and I'm happy with the finished model. Unlike the 1:72 version, this one fits in my house!

Gary

Guido,
I couldn't agree more...when it comes to computer programs...it is P.F.M. (Pure eff'n Majic !) Oh well, I'll worry about that another time.
Gary,
Very nice 1/144th Gato. So how does that kit go together ? I have to admit, I do believe 1/144th is a much better scale for these boats. But that's just my opinion.
Keep the great entries coming, mates ! Take it easy....Bruce

Thank you thank you, the kit fit and finish was great but for some darn reason, I have knocked those little periscopes off a dozen times, each! I had a little alignment problem in a couple of small places like where the little tunnel is in the nose end of the bow. All in all, not a difficult model with pretty good detail right out of the box.
Cheers,
Gary

Hey all. Better late than never I'm here with the HMS Torbay. The kit is Cyber-Hobbies HMS Triumph in 1/700 scale. I cut her down to waterline and added the jack staffs and detail to the sail. The color is Vallejo Prussian Blue.
I just noticed that they flipped the last photo.

Hi, Kenny!
Good one! We have extended the campaign to end of November so, if you are inclined to add a seascape: There's still time!

Hi Guido
I'm back from a great holiday in far north Scotland...Crossbills and Golden Eagles...but that's another hobby.
The campaign extension will help me finish the torpedo vignette, getting paint to stick to brass is a bit of a pain and 1/72 figures are a new challenge as well.
So I put together the Soviet Alpha from the Dragon Hampton v's Alpha set for a little light relief. I hope it is a welcome addition to the campaign.

I think the kit instructions colour scheme is a bit suspect but submarine colour schemes are so affected by sky and sea colour and reflected light it is hard to be definitive.
Cheers

Nice work Adam. While I can´t prove anything I have to agree with you, I don´t think the light gray belly is correct - but then again, I have no proof.
But it can´t detract from a nice and clean build.

Gentlemen-
we have but a few hours left. So far the list of modellers eligible for a ribbon contains:
1. Frigate aka Bruce Simard
2. eMan aka Lap Man
3. tmccall aka Tom McCall
4. Captain Songhouse aka Karl Zingheim
5. TheDiggs aka David Carlson
6. MrMox aka Jan Klarbæk
7. Dougiedog aka Adam Greenwold
8. lawlzw aka Lawrence Low
9. SGTJKJ aka Jesper
10. peterf aka Peter Fulgoney
11. nitevision92 aka JT Tune
12. ltb073 aka Sal
13. Tailor aka Guido Hopp
14. blaster76 aka Steve Joyce
15. discordian aka Scott Kruger
16. ajkochev aka Anthony Kochevar
17. beefy66 aka Keith Richardson
18. AlanL aka Alan McNeill
19. gbkirsch aka Gary K
20. gator aka Kenny Loup
A nice round number.
Almost 15K clicks within 6 months, averaging just above 60 clicks per day.
Just above 50% of the enlistees have submitted a finished model. I guess that's quite good! Thank you gentlemen for making my first campaign a joyride!
Now, any last minute takers?
Cheers,
Guido

Hi, Daniel!
The recent access problems kept me from checking the gallery today. I didn't see you show off your model in the thread so I assumed there weren't any new entries.
So much for assuming!
Of cause your finished model makes you eligibe for the ribbon and we rise the number of completions to 21! Excellent!
Cheers,
Guido

What's the sound of 21 people patting themselves on the back?
Good fun, I got bogged down with the torpedo vingette but enjoyed Orp Orzel & the Alpha and building them within the context of a group build.
Group builds do give a sense of community and are a great way to build models. Thanks Guido, for moderating and others for encouragement and advice
This won't be my last group build
Cheers

Ok, this one was a pain…. Unlike Kenny’s CH kit, the ARII offering of the Trafalgar class does NOT have any sail detail. I am talking about the two structural components shown by the arrows:

I spent some time gauging, chiseling, fixing, putty/sanding, trying to get some semblance of the structure. I have no WIP pics of any of that, was not a fun part of the build….
Anyways, all of the sensors/masts were chopped, as they were just random bits of plastic. I fixed the top of the sail which had some empty spaces. Next, the propeller! Inaccurate, as you get a “standard” five flat blade ship prop that is also way too thick. Tried a few things, settled for foil from a wine bottle (some good Spanish Rioja).

Looks just a tad better than the plastic blob, but was a learning experience. With practice and patience, I can make better props with the foil.
Tried something different for a base: Plastic candy boxes, sand and some rocks:

Made a cheesy underwater scene (WIP of joining the two open boxes, that was a pain!):

Then mounted the sub on clear "stubs” on the base. Sub was painted flat black, I need to take new pics, the sub looks waaaay too dark!

I was going to add some other stuff, but time ran out, so this is it! I may attempt a better final pic to upload later, looks a tad dark at my end. I also had another Trafalgar, waterlined, will finish that one down the road and post in the Dry Dock GB…
Guido, thanks for being a great host and my apologies for not contributing more as the usual combo of work, life and health keeps getting in my way!
Cheers
