Thats a very nice presentation of that "D" - are you going to stain the wood ?
Preiser makes some 1:144 tankcrew that would do as a crew for it.

Nice one!
I'd recommend the Preiser tank crew, too!
It worked wonders on my boat.

Thanks Guys
Jan was just going to varnish the wood but do you think it would look better with a dark stain effect and did not think anyone did figures for that scale will have to hunt some out at the hobby shops.

You need to take a look at the railroad guys' stores.
That's where you find them.

Like Guido says, you probably better of looking in a trainstore - like here:
http://www.ontracks.co.uk/index.php?page=catalogue&cat=1052Yes, i think a darker finish will give a better contrast and actually give the water a feeling of depth - Guido stained his, and I did likewise on a build that looks quite similar with yours, so here you can see the effect:

Here's my entry for the campaign- U-96, a Type VIIC U-Boot. Still have to work on the little floats(?) on the rigging, and the rust effects, but this baby is about done.
100% Brush-painted, took me about 8 hours divided into two sittings.
My first naval kit, constructive criticisms are most welcome

.
Propellers and rudder assembly was a royal PITA. For those wanting to buy this kit, you have been warned.

Jan-
I have been looking at it ever since you posted it on the mainpage. I seriously think that you have a masterpiece Type VII there! I love everything about it BUT the handrail cable on either side of the sail. I seriously think they damage the impression and you should get back and replace them by some softly curved cable instead of the crinkly line you use now. A steel cable of 5 or 7 mm diameter should droop very evenly, if not kinkt with some force before. I seriously recommend to take her back to the bench and improve it. Otherwise that is one of the best type VIIs out there is this scale so strive for the better! (Love the water! ... of cause!

)
JT-
Heck of an entry in the naval section of the hobby! Congrats, man! Keep at it!

Hi JT - very nice build and finish - sweet paint job and work on the rigging - nothing to say but well done.
It deserves a nice base - something wooden.
Tailor, thanks alot, very kind of you. Yes, you are absolutely right about that railing - I have tried heating it, but after a few hours its back to its original discusting wrinkels... I have after some time reached the same conclusion - replacement. I might use some very fine wire.

Thanks for the encouraging replies guys! Much appreciated.
James: No problem, I recommend using CA or some other instant-drying glue. But you probably know that already.
Jan: I agree. Now to look for a suitable piece of wood... My parents would notice if I pulled apart one of the chairs in the dining room!
Guido: Thanks!

Cracking Build JT, like the subtle weathering.
I have that kit sitting in amongst the Loft insulation. now I am strongly tempted to move it up the building schedule.
thanks for the inspiration

Thanks Guido! Much appreciated!
Just got the AFV Club Type VIIC/41 today! Got exams next week though, so I've got to resist the impulse to build the thing. It sucks when hobbies have to take a back seat to real life...

I have started my build for this campaign. The old venerable Matchbox 1/72 Swordfish.
An iconic aircraft that among many other things dealt heavy blows to the Italian navy and the Bismark jamming its rudder. All this despite basically being obsolete by the time of WWII.
Construction has begun. So far things fit together remarkably well taking the age of the kit into account.
More to follow.

Thanks for the comments, guys.
Yes, those memories. I am considering to go really old school and make it without the use of airbrush, but I might chicken out and do the usual masking and spraying.

A little more progress. I have finsihed construction and added the top surface camouflage. I used brush and made three thinned layers for each colour to avoid any brush strokes.
I am still trying to convince myself that rigging will not be visible in this scale and should therefore not be made on the model.
More to follow.
