Hi Daniel,
glad you like my Bismarck banner. Jan is running into the same thing I am running into. There is a lot of detail missing and once you start super detailing you seem to need to be adding more and more.

 Cheers,
Julian

Congrats Warren - no hijacking, and feel free to join in on this tread when you get your Bismarck. Are you going to begin it right away when you get it?
Cheers/Jan

It is and I'll get some snaps up today. I have been doing a lot of reading about the Bismarck and I was rather surprised by the book "The Worlds worst warships" by Anthony Preston, published in 2002, ISBN: 0 85177 754 6. According to Mr. Preston the Bismarck wasn't the unsinkable super-ship that legend would have us believe. The design had some some rather nasty flaws built in. C.S.Forester's "Sink the Bismarck" is also an enjoyable, (albeit rather dated), read.

Sunday 25th November update:
I have been continuing work on the hull inlets. You can see the "dud tank" behind the grating bars. I have also added the propeller shaft fairings and supports and have smoothed the fit with putty. The screws are only test fitted and I notice now on the photo that they luckily are on the correct shafts, (have to pay attention when I glue them). The shape of fairings and screws are reasonably accurate, you can compare them to the photo. I removed the thick pieces of sprue that fits in the main deck but for anyone still to start their build it might be wiser to leave it place because the deck becomes very "floppy" when the sprue is removed

 :

I have ordered some photo etch add-on from

Slow progress so far, real life has been intruding these past weeks

Nice work Julian, I have the same links from Daniel, but have not had the time to do anything with it yet - looking forward to your "mini-review"

I have begunwork on the secondary armament adding ladders to the two turrets with rangefinders.
Next will be adding blastbags with some 2 component putty.

I'd check your references on the subject of blast bags. There are an awful lot of photos of the Bismarck's batteries without blast bags. I added them on my Tirpitz build but it didn't work and look right. I'll be passing on that subject here methinks.....

Sometimes its just up-hill getting anything done ...

But I managed to persuade the cat to let me sculpt the blastbags on the secondary turrets - my photos shows the blastbags in place when Bismarck was prepared for Reinübung - and later photos from norway suggest that the where in place during repainting.

Some of the barrels on the main turrets looks very dark on photos - where they dark gray ?
Cheers/Jan

Yes Daniel - my conclusion is the same, there where blastbags on both main and secondary armament during the stay in Norway.
The secondary turrets in place - they miss some handrails as far as I can see :

Work have begun on the heavy FLAKs :

The replacement barrels really lifts the overall look.
