Jan, Daniel,
you haven't convinced me yet about the blast bags. They look excellent though. What two component putty did you use Jan?

Hi Andy,
I have a number of books on the subject, but the best is Anatomy of a Ship - as it contains a lot of nice drawings.
Regarding the "flight deck" - this is from Tirpitz and the deck looks absolutely smooth - but I don´t know if its from the fitting out - so that it is missing rails ore other means of transporting the planes around.
I think I have see a shot somewhere showing trolleys and rails on Bismarck ... but I can´t remember where ...

I have this kit as well, and while I'm no expert, I know the Bismarck's hull was welded, not riveted, so was anyone else surprised that the kit's hull is so smooth, without weld lines? Or is the perfectly smooth hull accurate?

Yes, I am very surprised that the hull is as smooth as a babies bottom. There should be weld lines, (see a photo that I posted earlier in this thread). Unfortunately there is little reference on the weld lines so it will be a flight of fantasy to scratch anything. Jan and I discussed this point off-line. There is also according to photos of the wreck a very prominent degaussing cable around the hull just below the waterline.

Julian

I can only reccomend the Revell arado 196, its a splendid kit out of the box.
I have been working on the FLAK guns, assembly are pretty straightforward - I have chosen to fix the elevation as the fit is somewhat wobbly and it wont be possible to align the barrels otherwise.

They are from the Trumpeter updateset - but the kit parts in styrene are by no means bad.

Beautiful work on the Arado catapult Jan, looks really fantastic. The Revell Arado is a great model with no bad habits to it. Only thing I disliked was the assembly of the cockpit canopy parts. That sucked
I gave the Bismarck a coat of red anti-fouling yesterday evening: that is an awful big expanse of red anti-fouling
Still waiting for my Polish photo etch to arrive.
