Looking good Russ, this one crossing the line alongside the Firebird will make some space on the bench

Cheers, D

Thanks D

It will be nice and a relief too to have 2 finishes before the end of the year!

She's gorgeous. The KGV class is my second favourite class of Battleships and you have done her proud!

Thank you Rory!

Hopefully the opportunity presents itself to get the rigging done soon.

Second favorite hey? What's your favorite?

Have a guess what mine is?

Queen Elizabeth class HMS Warspite is my favourite ship ever!

Your fav? Hmmmmm. I would assume the KGV’s but you put so much effort into all your builds so it’s hard to say...

You guessed it mate: KGV comes in at #1 for me.

Second place is a toughy: I really like the Queen Elizabeth class as originally commissioned, before any of the refits, but the South Dakota has to be equally as good

Actually, this makes me think it's time for another poll, Mwoahahahaaaaa.....

Hi Gang!

I've got a bit of a problem: no idea on where the rigging goes!

Does anyone have access to a decent rigging diagram they would care to share?

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone!

I hope the big man in the red suit was kind to you all!

Big news for the KGV! On the eve of 2020, she's finished at last!

Yep, you read it here first! After a long 5 years and 8 months, with two long intermissions I can at last raise the White Ensign and sign her off for active duty in the home fleet!

It seems that not many people have rigging references available, but Keith (Beefy66) did send through some scanned plans (thanks mate) and together with some photo references from the builder's model, the rigging is now completed. Here you can see blue tack being used to keep the Ezy-line taught while the super glue cures

No mounting point was provided at this location in the PE sets so I bent up some 0.5mm diameter wire and glued it on. A dab of AP507B from the hairy stick and it was good to go.

I made up this bracket from the kids' Duplo with the idea of adding the stringers up to the main run of rigging, but I couldn't get the tensions balanced so gave up that idea pretty quick!

Jack/Flag staffs-the last steps!

In the next month or so I will take some proper final pics and submit them for a photo feature in high res with proper background and lighting...

Until then, thanks go out to everyone for support, encouragement, information and staying tuned for this long project.

It's been a long road for sure, but at last I can say she's done! She's not perfect, and there are things I would do differently if I were to do it over (like using the Ponto's AM for example, or using stretched sprue for the rigging) but hey, live n learn And would I do it over? Hm... Maybe, maybe not. Working with these older tooled kits comes with it's challenges, not the least of which is the amount of AM details that need to be added. Maybe something more "modern" next time

Now, it's time to go off and build some wing things from the stash and ponder what my next salty build will be...

Hey Russ,

Congrats Mate, absolutely superb job after such an epic build.

Have enjoyed following along, and learned quite a lot of useful tips for when I get round to the Bismarck chase POW.

This commissioning deserves many to be raised.

looking forward to what comes next.

Cheers

Russ,

sorry for falling behind once again, but let me say a very big 'Congratulations!!' on commissioning this fantastic build, mate! Really, an epic build, as was remarked!

Over five-and-a-half years...but it was worth it!! You can be very proud on your King, and on yourself, for not giving up despite some setbacks construction stops on the way. Se's just awesome!

Cheers

Thank you Stephen In some ways I find the rigging to be the most rewarding part of the build as it is what turns what could be a toylike creation into something more like a real "scale model"

Jan, you've been here from the beginning mate, and stuck it through with me! Thanks so much for all your support and encouragement, and from everyone who's dropped in along the way to add their kind words.

It really has been the motivation that has kept me going!

I may yet add 2 more strands of rigging so that I can add the correct flags for "at battle stations"

Hi Mark

Thank you so much and for following along since the beginning!

Hehee, yer sure was a long build. Maybe not as long as she was commissioned (around 15 years) but certainly longer than it took to lay down and commission her

Well, I promised Glamour shots and I submitted Glamour shots. Not once, but twice!

Unfortunately, I don't think the feature article email address is being manned! In fact, there hasn't been any new feature articles on MSW since July 2019! Hopefully the powers that be (that's you, Admins ) can rectify this situation please?

In the meantime, here's the GLAMOUR SHOTS

So there you have it!
HMS King George V as of May 1941, the Bismarck Episode!

Once again, thank you to everyone for following on and being a part of this journey!

------------------------------------------------

PS. The annoying thing about this was that currently (please Admins take note) the upload photo function isn't allowing more than one photo to be uploaded at a time making this a rather time consuming process
