Steve, thanks for the tip!!! I'll give it a try. It's hard enough working with PE as it is without struggling with the glue as well!!
Tom

You are most welcomed Tom.
I can't recall now where I'd read this and I was skeptical at first, but then I tried it and learned that it does indeed work.

I like the margarine tub tip for the super glue...I have been using an upside down tuna can...and aluminum seems to speed the drying time...Wow, who'd a thunk it!

Hey guys....anybody ever think about doing a destroyer campaign. Where as the battleships are the queens of the sea, we can't forget about the Little Boys.

Tom, Steve:
I have my work surface covered in wax paper (that I replace ever so often) -- biggest advantage is that glues, etc, don't stick to it. So I put a CA drop or two on it, dip my applicator & go for it, (trying to remember not to rest my arm in the glue), and then I wipe it off the wax paper when done. Wax paper is an old wooden kit trick to protect plans.

Break:
Dreadnought progress:
Pix will come, I promise. Project is Trumpeter NC; I have both WEM & GMM detail sets, some add'l PE detail such as doors, ladders, etc, and the L'Arsenal 20's & 40's ....

First issue was that upper & lower hulls did not match well, side-to-side, particularly in the fore & aft sections. I cut all the cross-members in the upper hull & sanded/trimmed the gap until the upper & lower lined up. Once done, I glued the two together, then wiped in filler & sanded the hull smooth. I sprayed on red auto primer & have to do a small cleanup to remove blemishes. There were a couple good sink marks up in the bow to fix.

Second issue is that my fix above effectively narrowed the deck edge of the upper hull & that meant the three deck sections were a very tight fit. It will take some effort to get them in cleanly.

In prep for that, I have sanded off the anchor chains (I'll try to use separate chains so I can do better around the wildcats & etc.) and the hatches/etc that will be replaced with PE.

That takes us to the third issue & it's a tough one. The 3 deck sections do not mate up well, especially the front center. I have done some cleaning & fitting, but I can see two very obvious seams across the deck that will have to be carefully filled, then snaded & scribed to match the deck planking, all without of course screwing up said deck planking any more than I have to. Oh, yes there are two visible sink marks in the planks on the front of the center section to work with (how I don't know) and one smaller, almost ignorable, one on the rear section.

I'd realy like to get into parallel building of the guns, superstructure, etc, but I've got some 1:1 scale house stuff getting in the way ....

I plan on painting my my anchor chain the same color as the chain plates, then going in with artist chalks and building up the color from there. It's easier than trying to paint individual links black or whatever and it's far more managable.

Thanks Steven.
I think I still have some laying around here someplace.
I’ve never used them on models before do I just rub it on the chains or is there a special way to do it?

Also a small update.
I can now finally fix the peg I brock off the one turret.
After looking all over the place for a 1/32 drill bit to fix it with I have finally found one.
I have also discovered that what I need is a 1/16 drill bit.
I think all 5 of my drill bit sets has one of them.

Jacob,

I use a 10/0 brush that I cut down to make the bristles stiff and use it to lay in the chalk. Once I have it where I want it I just essentially work it into the paint a little, then I use a #2 flat that I have cut down to feather the rest of chalk into the surrounding area. Then I hit it with flat, dry brush a little, and if it looks like it needs some more I start the process again. I just keep doing it until it looks right or that nagging little voice tells me to stop.

See ya around Jacob, Can't wait to see your Penn!

I spent the weeend camping with my scout troop. I plan a post in the junk drawer that I'm going to call "coons and Singing Coyotes if you are interested in that mess. Had some unexpected time this week and made a lot of visual progress. Last week, I painted detail parts and added streched sprue and small brass parts to several pieces. This week I've reaped the rewards and been able to mount just about everything. I'm even laying out the main deck railings. It looks like my heady prediction of finishing her up by October is definitely a very doable deal.

I hate the way those superglue battles lock up. I have a steel scrapper tool that works great in reopening the nozzle....that is until last night when I slipped and stabbed myself. I thought for a while I had a severve puncture wound because of slight bleeding, Turned out to have been a very painful glancing gouge along the joint of a finger. Didn't even require a bandaid but it sure hurts like the dickens. Sure am happy it didn't happen with a scapel .

Heres a few more pictures of the progress on my Bismarck. I got the hull red on tonight, and the baltic stripes on this week. I dont know why I went ahead and painted the hull red on. I still havent made up my mind of I want to cut the bottom off and water line it. Next week I should be able to get some good progress with the planking the decks and smaller detail on the super structure. Those baltic stripes have been really kicking my butt, Im not looking forward to putting them on the super structure. I will keep adding pics to this url as I get some progress done.

Say Jeremy, that's looking really nice!

The camo scheme that you're doing, that the same emasure that has the black and white stripe that runs up the side of the superstructure and the funnel..right?

She's looking sweet.

I should have built my Bismarck for this camapign, but I wanted the Az too...I tossed a coin...

The Arizona was my first and last completed model so far. It was a fun build, took me forever to complete it.

Is that a balsa deck? If it's not, man you did a great job on the wood color!

Yeah you can go to the bottom of your post and select the "edit " tab to fix any mistakes.

Okay, I finished the "Medic" Campaign!

Steve(95bravo), you would have been proud. I finally learned how to post pictures to my posts and gallery!

Anyway, now I can get started on my IJN Haruna for the "Dreadnaughts" campaign....just gotta get a PE set first.

I'm sea worthy again!!!

Yeah, I better get with it, or I may be swabbing decks for awhile

The ambulance kit is from RMP (#72101). It's a cheap little kit I think I picked up from Squadron some time back when ordering some other things. Not the greatest of kits my any means, but it didn't turn out too bad I guess.
Gotta order a PE set for my Dreadnaught, but I think I can get started without it. I have to learn to make water with this one since it's a waterline kit. That should be interesting....
Thanks for the comments. I really appreciate the encouragement.

BTW, I seem to have lost my mind...when does the Dreadnaught Campaign end?

Hi all,

I made some pics of the progress on my Scharnhorst, I'll post them this afternoon or evening.

Sorry I'm not as involved in the dreadnaught forum threads/topics as I was during DDD, just too busy to visit the forums enough these days

Still I really enjoy this campaign!

Oeh mate you'd better make sure she isn't going to read what you just said here lol, we almost only see eachother in the weekends because we both have very little time from monday till friday......doesn't make her or me feel happy

The scale is 1/700 Nice scale, I thought it wasn't very detailled but it does look surprisingly good and it's easier to find space for this one than for a 1/350.....

Still I hope to build a 1/350 dreadnaught once.....

Yeah it does look good and for the size it seems to be a nice, crisp mold. I think it's going to look great when you're finshed.

Give Jessica a hug and tell her she's a good trooper and to hang in there......both of you...the weekend is only five days away.

Get her to build something too...kill two birds with one stone..
