Hi Mark :-)

I already have it at home. Crem coloured resin, seems a little britle, but perfect casting, with no bubbles or warping. Excellent details on deck, very complex part of the island (I really didn't figure how the manage to make a single cast of such a complex part - but it revealed good engeneering!!!) - and most of it is going to be replaced by the PE set - and the one part hull is also full of detail. The Hangar deck is visible, so there's a good chance of packing it with some folded wings aircraft.
Another thing that impressed me was the quality of the 20mm Oerlikon guns!!! They are the most perfect that I have seen so far in 1/700!!
Decals also seem good.

The instructions booklet is very similar to Midship Models kind (computer generated 3D parts in a isometric view) and although it has some japanese writing they are very easy to follow.
There are two ship options with two optional painting schemes with references for Gunze and WEM Colourcoats range (a nice touch!)

The only thing that this model could be improved is the inclusion of the airwing, which it doesn't!
But I guess that it would be overkill making all the 1/700 aircraft in resin or white metal, when there are so many complements of these kind, from some manufacturers - and they are easy to get and cheap.

You can take a look at the model and some built pictures here:
http://www.hlj.com/product/AKI002

I am going to enjoy this built for sure!!!!!

Another update with no photos this time

just got the trumpeter 1/350 F-14 for the airwing. Initial inspection tell me that this is a nice kit. The canopy is molded in clear instead of the solid plastic as in tamiya kit.

the decals are for Black Ace Squadron for USS Nimitz. Question, if i use the marking for Enterprise, would it be totally wrong?? since there is no marking on the ac that said USS Nimitz ...and i dont know if black aces have served in the big E.

Hi Ahmed!
Good choice for the airwing, mate! Try this link for the answer to your question...

Hi Guys,
An update on my campaign entry. After finding out the plane i was going to model never took off from an aircraft carrier DOH, i have decided to build a 1/48 Magna Models Supermarine Attacker instead, a nice resin and white metal kit ( i must be mad :-) ).

Can any one give me any info on this part of H.M.S Eagle ( early 1950's), such as colours, what the funny looking bits are and such. I haven't a clue not being sea minded :-) :-) . Also would the catapult be fitted to the tail wheel for take off, as i know on modern jets its fitted to the front wheel

Appreciate any help you can give me.
Thanks, Andy (++)

Hi Andy
I'am certain the Attacker used a catapult bridal. As this method required the RN Phantoms to be modified to use it. Unfortunately I don't know the location of the catapult hooks on the Attacker.

this image shows how the system works.

Hi Andy!
Don't sweat it, mate, lots of time left to build an entry for this one, and I'm glad to see that you're back on track again with a new build...kit looks good, should prove to be a challenge, yes, but I bet alot of FUN too! Keep us posted on your progress, and thanks for the update!

Hi all,

I'm pleased to inform you that I've finally started my 1/400 Hr Ms Karel Doorman (Dutch light aircraft carrier)

The kit is a conversion on the 1/400 Heller Arromanches. So far I haven't used much of the conversion set yet, I only changed some parts/details which were different on the Karel Doorman.

The Heller kit is not really good. Lot's of sink marks on unlogical places (and they're hard to remove most of the time). Also the fit of some of the hull parts isn't perfect. The deck however fits nicely in the hull.

Still with some work, my model is already starting to look like an aircraft carrier. I can't wait till I can start with all the nice PE and resin details included in the conversion kit!

Pics will follow this weekend!
Martin

edit: as promised: the first pics!

Not much to see yet, just the basic hull (which will look a lot different with the conversion kit)

Boxart:

Hope you like it! Really a lot of work on this one hehe.

Martin

Ahoy ship mates,

A little update and some pictures of the Graf Zeppellin. I had a go Friday before getting ready for a local show of painting the bow and stern with Schnellbootweiss (1st coat) looks ok to me what do you guys think?

I have decided to plate over the rear casement guns (after I took the photos) as the Magazines would be used for the SAM systems project 'Waterfall' sorry can not remember the German for it, one mounted on the bow and one each side towards the stern in white.

And this is a detailed shot of the island with all those railings, the marks you see are from filler (lots of it), the superglue and the Zap kicker to get them to set. Just needs paint, a couple of SAM missiles (scratch), rigging and its airwing. Then the fun part.....Water

I hope you guys like it so for.

ps. Could not help myself, at the local show brought a Trumpeter USS Franklin 1/700, airwing of 60 aircraft included!!!

Ciao

I picked up a product called Water effects from 'Vallejo' of Spain its a 'Heavy bodied acrylic' that can be shaped. Says it drys hard in 24 hours and if applied to a non-porous surface can then be peeled off and cut to size. It comes in a couple of colours I have Mediterranean blue and Pacific Blue. This will go into a ally picture frame I have got which I need to resize as at the moment its way to big.

Has anyone used this product, know what its like?

Ahoy, mate!

Sounds like a good plan, Luciano! Unfortunately, I can't give you any feedback on this particular product, as I have yet to give it a test...but from Vallejo, should be a decent product. VERY interesting, mate, keep me posted on your results!

UPDATE
This is the Magna models Supermarine Attacker which has the cockpit done and all the major resin parts attached. One side of the fuselage is warped and twisted and will require about 3 weeks of sanding and filling to put right which I realized after i had written and submitted my review on this kit that i thought the fuselage was slightly warped ( understatement of the year :-) ).
But i am enjoying the build so far and learning as i go along.
If anyone has any links or photos of the flight deck of HMS Eagle in the 1950's i will be very grateful.

Hi Andy!
Bummer about the fuselage, mate...but, that's part of the hobby now, isn't it? Sometimes you hit a hole in the road with a kit, but ya gotta just keep going...Very unique and interesting entry though, mate, so I do hope that you can continue with the build regardless of the major warpage...keep us posted, and thanks for the update!

Ok guys I have a quick question. Most of mi pictures of the USS Hornet show the paint chipped up pretty bad around the front of the ship near the water line. My question is what color would it be where the paints chipped?
I only have one colored picture showing it and its not very good. I知 thinking its just the dark blue chipped off showing the Ocean grey paint under it but I知 not sure. Any help would be appreciated.

As for what I致e gotten done on her. Still not much. I知 thinking I will try to spray the deck this evening.

Hi all!

A little update of my Japanese Carrier Deck Diorama:
I painted the base but didn't weathered it yet. The plane is almost complete but I had problems with the canopy. It came in a totally closed position and in two parts. You've guessed it, these parts didn't fit together very well. The only option was to cut the pilots hood to display it open so it won't be noticable. Unfortunately, once I was done, I soon noticed it was to small to go over the middle part! So I had too vacuform a new one This was a first for me and I'm happy with how it came out It was no big deal though, the part being rather simple in it's shape.

Basically I have to do the panel lining (plane and base), weathering (not too much this time) and of course paint the figures to finish this project. I think my next update will be the last one!

Hi, Jean-Luc!

Thanks for the update, mate, your progress is very promising...too bad about the canopy, though, but your homemade vac-form part looks GREAT!

I really do hope that everyone else is having as much fun building their entry's, as I'm having in following along with you all! ...Keep modeling, Bro, and keep the pic's coming in!
