Martin don’t worry you could still finish it.
Gunny has given the campaign an “extension” of however long you need.

You can read more here.

Well I'm affraid I have to drop out of the campaign. The kit I choose is a little bit too difficult for me to finish in the time given.

Don't get this wrong: the campaign lenght was good, I just should have chosen a kit which wasn't so difficult

Sorry, I really would have liked to finish this campaign in honour of Garry.

Martin

Martin, my friend,
It's OK if you feel that you must back out of this one mate, but as Jacob's previous post stated, the participating members of Flattops were given the voting choice of either an extension to the campaign or the chance to open the campaign back up at project completion for ribbon awards, and the choice was the latter. If you wish to complete the campaign, mate, just shoot me a pm telling me so, and also when you're complete with your model...it's entirely up to you!

Here are some new pictures.

I’ve finally gotten around to finishing the stand for her.

And here is the rigging. (Sorry it’s a little blurry)

I’m almost done so I think she’ll be finished by the end date.

I like that Hornet. I've got the 350 Trumpeter version. Plan to do it Doolittle, got the PE, requisite number of B-25's, about the only thing I'll need before I start it will be Gator's masks. But, I'm probably 2 years away from doing her. I've called a moritorium on 350 kit building until I figure out what I'm going to do in life. My hopes for career change into the paralegal field are fading as education be damned - we want years of experience factor is the prevelant mood around here.

Steve I’m glad you like it. This one is by Revell and is somewhere between 1/450 and 1/550.
I used Gators mask myself on the hull and think it came out very well.

Volcan I’m glad to see you enlisted.
Can’t wait to see your Hornet.

A little update.
the deck needs 1 more line on it and the airwing needs decals. i hope to have it done soon but storm repares ar taking up my time.
I do have new pictures on my camera but well.... I’m starting to think I need new rechargeable batteries. 3 years is a long time for them.

Kenny I’ve heard the phrase great minds think alike on the armor boards but after our posts on the “pirates booty” I don’t know if that exactly describes us. :-)

Mid post the news showed a segment on people crashing into deer or this would have been posted sooner.
Now I’m hungry.

Jacob,

It's a very slow process to me because of school load. Now I'm in the break so I can work on hornet. Here are photos.

Kenny,

The Tamiya kit has no major fit issues but still need putty in various places.

Hi Steve,
Welcome to Model Shipwrights, mate!

First off, I will tell you that normally, I wouldn't let this entry in at this time, my friend...#1, the entire idea of a site campaign is to enlist with an unbuilt model kit, and to build the kit along with the other entrants creating an overall feeling of enjoyment, camaraderie, and brotherhood of modeling...since I don't know for sure if you have started this kit before enlisting, I can only find a judgement of allowing this in, because of the special rider that we have placed upon this campaign concerning late starters...

#2, Technically, if you had the kit half built in the closet and just decided now to enlist in the campaign, it's not really fair to the other entrants by doing so, because they started the campaign with an unbuilt kit...know what I'm saying, mate?

EVERYONE who is thinking about enlisting in any campaign should think about this factor before hitting that "I enlist" button...

But like I have said previously, in this case, you're ok to keep building, welcome to the campaign, and get busy!

Gunny,

I'm not qualified to enter this campain. I started hornet during spring break and thought that I can finish it within a week. How silly I am or how slow I am. (++) I like to be prepared before I reach to a certain stage. Hence I posted questions on paint used on hornet and how to paint canopies on aircraft within late March early April time frame. Guys in this forum have been very helpful on the questions. Jacob kindly provided me with paint option/guide (along with other guys) and pm me with the info of the campain. Then school started and I put hobby on hold. Now summer break is here and I continue on the build to current stage and ready for a paint job. Now I think about Jacob's encouragement and decide to enlist in the campain. Based on these facts and the two rules and reasonings on campain that you posted, I'm not qualified. I didn't know that before I hit the enlist key. Sorry sir for the mess-up. It will be unfair to others if I continue on the campain. I would like to withdraw from the campain to follow the rules and honor other. The purpose of the campain is to study/research on carriers, form friendship, enjoy the build and to honor Garry who I don't know in person but I believe he's an honest gentleman. By honestly withdraw from the campain, all purposes for the campain are observed. Thank you so much Gunny to let me in but I believe that you will agree with me after both us clear the facts. No hard feelings. However, I will continue on my build and keep you guys posted on my progress. Just like in a contest, only this time, my hornet will for display only not as an entry. I don't know from my part how to withdarw but hope the administrator can help me to withdraw to honor others. I will make sure that my DML USS Arizona will stay wrapped before I enlist in battleship campain in the not so near future.

Enjoy the build and see you next post.

Steve I just PMed gunny about the situation after seeing his above post. (You hadn’t posted yet.)

I was going to PM you then but seeing your post I’ll put this here.

I feel I’m partly to blame for this. I encouraged you to join and when you were holding off until you knew if you’d be able to join I felt that would be ok. (Actually thought you would have joined up sooner then you did but that’s my fault for misunderstanding)
I’m sorry for any problems I’ve caused.
I was hopping you would be able to remain in the campaign but if you most leave I apologize and hope that you continue to post your progress on your Hornet.

As I’ve said I’m very sorry for any problems I caused.
I hope you can forgive me Steve.

Jacob,

No need to apologize. It's nobody's fault. I'm kind of low profile and won't show my work until I think it's reach to a certain stage that worth to show the public. I have you to thank for all the help and encouragement through the way. I'm not familiar with the campain rules and never been in any campain before. Once the rules are clarified by Gunny, I realize that I'm not qualified hence decide to withdraw. The reason to withdraw is strictly follow the rules. This is my character. Once I know the rules, I follow the rules. I know that once I break the rules there will be others to follow. I have no hard feeling to anyone here. This forum provides great help and warmth of friendship. I will keep you guys posted for my progress and will post in progress photos in appropriate forum. Now the question is whether this thread is still an appropriate place to post my work as display only not as an entry. I know I can alway post in progress photos in constructive comments forum.

There always the next time. The next time will be better than this time.

Cheers
Steven

As promised, here is my finished entry for this campaign.
First I'd like to say thanks to everyone for the tips and advice.
Second I'd like to apoligize for the poor quality of the pictures. I had to borrow a camera and I'm not familiar with this one. Also, my carrier deck and crew figures didn't arrive until May so I was pushed for time. I realize that my carrier deck is probably not totally accurate but I gave it a good shot and I'm fairly happy with it, but my next attempt will hopefully be much better.
So here are the pictures of my entry and I hope these are acceptable and that you guys enjoy them as much as I enjoyed doing this project.

VonCuda your plane came out very nice.
Where did it little tractor come from?

As for my USS Hornet I may still get it done today.
I still need to paint 1 line on the deck, add decals to the wings of the planes, and add the flag. I’ll have a full hr tonight to work on it while watching a documentary on midway (the battle I’m building the hornet in.) So I’m hoping to finish it then.
I’ll try to get it done and post the pictures tonight but if not I’ll get them up by the end of the week.

Gunny what time is the original deadline set at anyway? I would assume midnight our time (eastern) but just wanted to be sure.

Why do I seem to be pushing the line with all these campaigns?

Well I decided to stay in the campaign and finish ASAP. I'm now working on the completion of the flight deck (building that is, no painting yet).

All of the resin parts for the flight deck are assembled. I'm now adding walkways, made out of L-shape plastic strip. After that I'll clean up the whole flight deck and continue on the control tower (which I've constructed for 50% already)

In-progress pic:

Grey parts are the Heller kit, yellow parts are of course resin and the white parts are plastic strip/sheet. No PE yet but I'll add that soon....

yayyyyy! i made it! heres my ark royal, done and dusted in time for the deadline
its the airfix kit, with the addition of a white ensign models etch set, and was a departure from what i usually build. and of course this one is dedicated to the memory of garry beebe, who i exchanged a few posts with in the aircraft forums, when he invited us wingy-thingy builders to maybe, build a carrier based aircraft deck dio. i had this kit in my stash anyway (but did intend to build a 1/72 tamiya corsair on a deck scene) but the idea of something a little different won over
heres to ya, garry!

Great piece of work there Phil, congratulations! I hope mine looks half as good when she's finished. Just one thing I noticed, hope you don't mind - you've left her anchors off...

Decals for your air group are in the post by the way

Cheers!
