Hi
Making very very slow progress on my Hr Ms Karel Doorman. The new flight deck is almost installed, but still a lot of putty and sanding needs to be done....
Once I've done that I can post interesting pics again!

Hi Guys
With my Dreadnoughts entry almost done I couldn't resist and started my Flattops entry
So, for those who missed it, I am working on a 1:700 Sangamon class ACV with some PE to fix some details. I am planning on making it as USS Santee (ACV-29) wearing a disruptive measure 17 or as USS Suwannee with a more "normal" painting scheme but having a huge 7 on the flight deck (yes, this number was USS Wasp's sunk before). The kit has no planes, but I have a couple of boxes to make the airwing...
The kit is in resin, brand AKI and you can see it here:
http://www.hlj.com/product/AKI002As soon as I can post some pics I will...

Most excellent news, my friend!
You can NEVER have too many kits going at once!
Looking forward to seeing some photo's, Skip..(that is as soon as Canon can get you straightened out!

Got a little bit mor done of the Hornet yesterday.
I tryed fixing the white paint on the hull and had a little success. I went over it with some very fine sandpaper and was able to get rid g most of the streaking but still have the spots. I’ll probably try doing it agin today and see if I can get more off.
I’ve also gotten the 2nd coat on the island.

Hey, Jacob!
Glad to hear that you were able to clean up some of that FUBAR, mate! Steady as she goes, Bro, it'll be just fine!

Can’t really call it FUBAR if you manage to repair it.
Managed to get the last of it sanded off without going taking off the clearcoat first. I also retried the weathering and was able to get one side finished. Didn’t have any problems this time around. I’ll wait till its dry to see if I like it or not.

Ahoy, me maties...
Well, planned on spending the entire weekend in Hubbard at the
AMPS 2006 Convention, but had to cancel today's trip...Had a great time yesterday, though!
But , I worked on my Flat-tops entry all day, to help to ease my pain of missing today's portion of the show. Finished her up too, so here's a peek, and there's more in the Campaign Gallery if you wish to see a little more of Dragon Models, 1/700 scale, USS Saipan. Was a great build, loved it all the way!
How's the rest of my crew doing?

I was in the gallery and so the pictures.
You did a fantastic job on her. Still like the camo on those choppers the best.
Sorry to here about your trip being canceled but it looks like you were still able to spend that time well.
Sadly I wasn’t able to do any modeling today. Figured it might scare the turkeys. :-) (Todays the 1st day of spring gobbler out here)

Great looking ship Mark!.... you've done yourself proud. It's always a great sense of accomplishment when you complete a ship, I hope to have that feeling in a couple of months.

I'm currently bogged down in 6 non-naval campaigns that are all due by the end of the month (May) once this due date has passed I'll sit down and concentrate on my two naval entries. (which leaves me with a scant four weeks to complete my Hornet and my Dreadnought!!!).....

Gentlemen, thanks for the remarks!
I had
A LOT of fun building this kit, and would buy another one today if I could experience the same again...near the beginning of the build there are a few problems with the hull fit, but for the most part, everything went together quite well...I would strongly recommend this kit to anyone looking to build a Tarawa class subject.
Frank, my friend, you definitely have your work cut out for you...(and I thought I had alot of projects going on!

)...Dreadnoughts still has a bit of time left, mate, and talk around town is that a few guys may need a little extension for Flattops...

So that may buy you a little time, Bro! Keep Modeling!

Hi Mark!
Wonderful entry!

I must say this is a great Campaign and you are doing an excellent job on it! I hope there will be more like these in the future. It is nice to mix Ships and Aircraft.
Was there already a Campaign about the Midway Battle?
Anyway, thanks again for running such an interesting Campaign!

Well Hello, Jean-Luc!
Thanks for the kind remarks, mate!
I 'm having such a great time running this campaign, I will be sad when it is over...but hopefully, we'll have many more opportunities to share our love of the hobby together, my friend...It was extra special with this one with the inclusion of the aircraft entry's (I really couldn't resist allowing these in!!) and having the chance to participate in a like campaign/group build together with you guys...I'm glad you enjoyed it my friend, and
thank you for participating!

I don’t think they are but I’m not sure.
I would be interested in a midway campaign sometime that would allow aircraft.
Back on topic I was going to post pictures of the hornet’s progress but they are turned out blurry and now the batteries are dead so I’ll need to wait.

hi gunny! all this talk of finish dates is making me nervous :-) haven't updated for a while, what with all the changes to the site, and being involved in other campaigns and group builds.
anyways, here is my ark royal, hull sprayed but still waiting for more p/e greeblies, the island (is that the right term?) is nearly finished, just need to get the mast done and spray it, and i'm now thinking about spraying the flight deck
enjoy!

Hi Phil!
Your ship looks very good!

I like the paintjob, great work!
I see the CR.32 is parked on the side of your aerodrome. Don't let it there too long, I think I've heard the sound of Russian engines!

Too bad we can't use the Ark Royal as reinforcement... :-)
See you again in sunny Spain!

Hi Phil!
I'm also sure the struts will be easier to glue in place than the CR.32 ones! :-)

Hey guys,
Here's the deck of the Shinano done with the exception of a couple of touch ups. The entire pattern is painted using a series of masks. I'll be getting paint on the verticle surfaces Sunday.
