cheers for that mate, it did occur to me after i posted that question that its easier to cover red with grey than the other way around, meaning i'll spray the red bottom then mask and spray the grey. on this kit threr is a thin raised line at the point where they meet (waterline i assume) which should help me keep the line straight

Ok guys, day three. Here's where I stand. The color is on all three aircraft and the upper surfaces are weathered. Now, it's time for the markings. Kepford's Corsair, Vraciu's Hellcat and Fuchida's Kate. All markings except for the kill markings will be painted on using Gator's Paint Mask. This week the flight deck bases will be made.

Good news: I've fixed the small details and corrected the weathering on my F4F-4 Wildcat.

Bad news: My resin carrier deck section is on backorder and won't be here until after the campaign is over. So, it looks like I'm out of this one. Better luck next time.

Is it just me or did we lose half the User names in here?

Anyway I got the decals added to the hull of the Hornet and can’t say there the greatest. Looking at it the decal saying hornet for on the back looked a little small. After putting it on the problem became you can't even see it over the dark nlue paint.
Also don’t know it I put the numbers up-front at the correct place.

Oh well she’s going to get sealed and then I’ll get you guys some new pictures.

Not your imagination, Brother...

Bummer about the name decal, Jacob...nothing you really could do about it though...bring on the pics, mate!
Thanks for the update, neighbor!

Hi all

Still nothing to show, I'm afraid.

At least I've got all the bits I need - the Verlinden USN pilots finally arrived... and I've cleaned up the major parts for the Hellcat. I'm aiming to add Eduard's etched details - which might be a bit ambitious if I'm to have any chance of finishing this along with my other builds and reviews - but we'll see.

All the best

Yea from a few other posts it seems like the user names and things are under control. Apparently we just need to wait for every one to log in.

Gunny I’ll get the pictures up right away.
The decal on the back I’ll probably remove and just try hand painting. Might be very interesting.

Also I haven’t placed my order yet. I may get to it tonight.

As promised here you go. The hull, deck, stand, and island are all dry fitted together.
lets see if i can post pictures here now.

And heres a close up of the numbers as well the paint chipping I did. (Decal will get covered over the chipping)

All the pictures of the back turned out blurry so I cant show that decal. (Not that you could really see it anyway)

Wow, those decals are a bit tiny, aren't they, mate!?!
Good luck if you try to handpaint the nametag on the stern! You'll need a steady hand and a good eye, that's for sure!! Thanks for the update, Jacob, keep modeling!

I got two of the flight deck sections built tonight. I'll do the other one tomorrow. I cut down 1/32" Basswood to 1/16" planks and cut those to various lengths. The base is mat board for framing pictures. Double stick carpet tape holds the planks to the mat board.

The USN flight deck...

...and the IJN flight deck

Next, stain to match and apply to wooden base.

Ahoy, Maties!
OK, now that we're in our new home at Armorama, and the waves are beginning to calm again, we can get back to business at hand! I KNOW that we all have been busy lately here with all of our excellent campaigns, but it's time for an update, mates! Anybody have anything new to share with us??

Here are some progress pictures for my entry. I'am combining the carrier deck and crew from the Dragon kit, with the Revell Hawkeye. Even though the Revell Hawkeye is 1/144 it is better detailed in some areas than the Fujimi 1/72 kit.

Hi David!

That's an interesting choice in builds there, mate...what made you go for the Hawkeye? Personally I find it quite an interesting plane in itself, and your dio should turn out pretty cool...Thanks for the update, David, Keep Modeling!

The Hawkeye forms a vital part of the airwing, but receives little attention. As I already had both kits in my stash, I thought the Hawkeye would look more impressive. Beside the Dragon Tomcat looked like it would require more work.

Hi all!

As promised, this will be my last update. I'm finished with my 1/48 D4Y "Judy" diorama!
- Aircraft is from Fine Molds
- Japanes Carrier Deck Base is from Eduard
- Figures are from Hecker & Goros, Tamiya and Fine Molds.
- I used mainly Tamiya Acrylics and Future for the Plane and the base.
- I used mainly Prince August Acrylics for the figures.
The Fine Molds kit is nice but the canopy gave me problems. I had to vacuform a new pilots hood... not bad at the end as the cockpit details can now be seen The kit's decals were also unusable so I painted the "Hinomarus" using masks and added numbers on the rudder using spare ones. The decoration, though representative, is therefore fictional.

I wish everyone who didn't finished yet good luck! And good luck also to Model Shipwrights!

I want to congratulate all you airplane diorama builders on your entries. I used to do 48th scale planes and still have them in my collection. I especially loved the carrier aircraft of all ages. In fact, I am considering picking up a 48th scale Trumpeter Vigilanti kit someday.

Hi Jean-Luc!
Looks Fantastic, mate!
I'm so glad that the warships area and the aircraft area of Armorama has had the chance to work together on this campaign, (because I AM a wingnut myself, too!). It has greatly broadened the entry type and made things so much more interesting for all of us. Thanks, Jean Luc, for your most excellent entry in this most excellent campaign!

Ok guys. Two out of three carrier aircraft and decks done. Never again with a deadline.

Here's Ike Kepford's Corsair

and Alex Vraciu's Hellcat

All the markings except for the kill flags are painted on.

You have done an excellent job with Gator's Masks and the stars
Now... where is that Japanese Plane???

Keep up the good work
