Fuchida's Kate is on the way. I'm having to scratch build the tail wheel after it went flying across the room while trying to install it. The painting is done on the fuselage, I'll post pictures of that tonight.

Wow the planes are all looking great guys.
As for an update on my hornet I’ve gotten the main part of the island together and have stated painting it.
I’ve also gotten the side pieces on the left side of the flight deck. There a bit of a pain as the inside of them is extremely hard to get painted good with them on the ship so I’ve been painting the before adding. Now I just have to putty the seams and touch that up.
Also had to fix 2 of the little guns sticking out of these pieces. Just one good wack while sanding will snap a barrel right in half.
I hope to get more pictures soon. Cameras been getting used a lot lately and I just can’t seem to keep it charged.

Hi Jacob!
Sounds good my friend, get that camera charged up mate! I know what you mean about those small guns, Bro...I'm at that stage now on my build that I have to be soooo careful whatever I'm working on because there's so many little doo-dads just dying to be busted off and sent into the never-realm! Keep building and posting Jake, and show us some updates when you can!...hey, did you get your Bradley's paint yet, by the way?

I should be able to have pictures posted in a day or 2.
Of course I don’t know how things will be turning out this weekend with the start of trout season. I may not get a lot done.
I did get that paint ordered now. Just waiting for testors to get around to shipping it.
The order also has that paint I’ll be using to add a little weathering to the hull.

That's cool, Jacob, looking forward to some updates, mate...fishing up here probably won't be very good...weather's been crappy, lots of rain, creeks are just too muddy...we'll see what happens, though!

I’m thinking of sending them an Email and then if I don’t get anywhere I’ll give them a call after the holiday weekend.
As for the fishing my sportsmen club has a nice little pond they stock every yearas well as stocking a small creek right below my house. Of course I think I may all ready have 2 trout in the freezer.
Any way sorry for getting us off topic again.

Here you go. As promised an update picture of the hornets flight deck

Yea I know its not much.
Sorry I was unable to get a shot of the island.
I’ll soon have the flight deck and hull ready to go together.
I also got the 1st color on the island and will now be adding the camo.
If everything goes as planed I think I’ll have her done by the dead line.

Ok, I finally got a little painting done on the Yorktown. Ripster's post on airbrushes, that Gunny put such great info on, inspired me to start using my brush some more. I actually managed to have four, count them four, airbrush sessions, without problems. A absolute new record for me. I sprayed black on both sides of the stack where the big Y is going to be going, and also the anti-foul line on the hull. The next step will be to mask both of those areas prior to painting the rest of the hull. I'm not 100% sure about the anti-fouling strip. I'm interested in your thoughts. Should it be flat, like I did it, or glossy? Also, about how wide would you say it was in real life, so I can calculate it in this odd scale?
I also sprayed lines on the deck in yellow for her deck markings. Yellow paint just doesn't cover that well, so I'll have to give it another coat. I was loosing my light outside, no spray booth, so I'll have to do that tonight. It's actually beginning to look like a ship now.

Rodger I don’t know how accurate it is but my hull had the water line marked on it. Its 2 thin little groves (may have been raised) running around the hull.
Your kit should have them as well as long as the didn’t get sanded off or covered by too much paint. In case they did I just measured the line on mine and it comes out to a 1/16 inch thick.
As I was writing this I just received my order from Testors. Looks like I’ll be getting back to work.

Yes, mines got those, but I've seen some examples online where the anti-fouling strip is probably more like half to three quarters of an inch, at least.

Hi Phil!
On the contrary, mate, us ship modelers never really stop building! It just takes a while between updates...This campaign ends on June 30, of this year (that is, without an extension...
Your progress looks Great, I love your PE additions! Keep the updates coming, and thanks!~Gunny

Just checked and your probably right. The decals I have give the line at 1/16 as well but so far the decals all seem to be too small. I think they might be scaled to the ships listed 1/542 size while the model its self is closer to 1/480.
Do you have any pictures of the side of the ship? If you do try resizing it until it’s the same size as the kit and then measure the line on the picture.
If you don’t have any let me know and I’ll send you a scale drawing of the side of the Hornet. The water line should be the same size on both ships.

Gunny actually I didn’t do the weather with the airbrush. (In fact the only thing on the deck I airbrushed ast the deck blue.
I drybrushed on some spots of oil paint, wiped them a around with a rag and then after it dryed a little brushed it off with a toothbrush.
I have my concerns that it will lose the effect when I gloss coat it (need to add a few decals yet) so I may need to do it again.

Well because it’s been taking me so long between updates I thought I would try to hurry things up a little.
So here you go my 2nd update in one day.
The island.

I still have to go over it a little more but as you can see I’ve gotten the 2nd color started.
Thats all for today.

For the island I’m doing it free hand (sorry Kenny.) And by brush.
The hull I did using a paint mask. It has the markings for the island as well but I expected I would have gotten my modeling room competed and moved all my stuff down there before needing it. Considering that didn’t happen the mask is now buried in a mountain of boxes.
Sorry Kenny but I wont be able to comment on that part. But from doing the top part without it I can say the masks are a great help.

Hey Jacob...no need to apologize, I completely understand. I just finished vending at my final show of the year. Four shows in four months plus prep and artwork and orders. The best layed plans don't mean squat when the wave is crashing in. I'll finish up my USS Monitor here soon for Dreadnaughts but I'm toying with another entry for flattops...and no, I haven't gone over to the dark side. Just wanting to have a little fun and push the masking envelope. I'm planning a Kriegsmarine Me-262 with wing fold and a 3 color camo scheme based on the modern MARPAT camo. I'm scratch building the flight deck, of course. What do you guys think...wood or plate steel. Were'nt the RN's deck plate steel? The Gemans may have copied that idea for future carriers. Verryyy interesting. Off to digitize more MARPAT.

Didn’t get much done but what I did I wish I hadn’t.
Tried adding a little white paint to blend the hull a little and do some weather. But then I got a call in the middle of it and til I got back to wipe the paint off it was half dry. Now I have white streaks and spots all over the front of one side.
Not exactly sure what I’ll do to fix it yet.

Ahoy, mates!
How are we all doing on our Flattops? Not much action in the thread lately, we must all be arriving at completion!
I myself have spent most of Saturday (and I just took a break this morning) from adding the fantastic array of Lillipution sized railings all about my entry, the USS Saipan. I'm getting close to completion, may actually make the finish date...How about the rest of ye salty dogs?...anybody thinking about, or wishing for an extension yet??? Ya gotta let me know, mates, Because I don't want to come this far in this fantastic campaign and lose some of my crew because of the timeline..So, what say ye'?

Extension may be a good idea.
I have to finish my modern armor entry before I can really get back to the Hornet so I’ll probably only have about a month to get everything done. Don’t know if I can make it or not.
