Hey guys,
Here's the deck of the Shinano done with the exception of a couple of touch ups. The entire pattern is painted using a series of masks. I'll be getting paint on the verticle surfaces Sunday.
Gator
VERY NICE, Gator!
Hey, what masks did you use, mate?
No, but seriously, looks fantastic, ken, keep 'em coming, my friend!

Some company from Southwest Louisiana. I forget the name. There was some about the guy that just wasn't right. Maybe too many boiled crawfish, you know what I mean?
Gator
Seriously, this will be the subject of a tutorial in the very near future.

Well, I'm back from the dead. It seems that Squadron finally decided to send my resin flight deck tonight. Since it was on backorder and I was told that it would not arrive until AFTER the campaign deadline, I quit working on the dio. So, now I have 30 days to paint the deck, deck crewmen, little tow tractor thingy, and take some pictures of the whole mess.
I can't promise that I'll make it by the deadline but I'm going to give it one heck of a try.
BTW, really beautiful work so far from everyone. It's been a while since I checked out this thread and you all have done outstanding.
Jean-Luc, it's not fair for an art teacher to enter campaigns. I hope my dio doesn't end up near yours in the gallery.

Hi Hermon!
I hope it will! I'm sure you will make a good job out of it and I'm looking forward to the pictures! The centerpiece will be your Wildcat, is that right?

Well well, I'm Glad to see your return, my friend!
Listen, Hermon, don't stress yet, mate! Please read this thread and I think you will understand...
FLATTOPS Although I would like to see everyone finish in time, this is a special ammendment put in place by our Campaign Administrator, Jim Lewis, to help those out that are still building...so with this said mate, quit wasting time, get busy!

Good deal Mark!
My boys have baseball all day today but I'm planning on putting in some late hours tonight on my flight deck and crew. The kids in my Sunday school class are going to have a blurry eyed teacher tomorrow. :-)
If I can get the wife to go shopping once or twice before the end of June and stay off my back I should make the deadline.
Thanks

Hey Phil, looking good. Is that the kit's aircraft on the deck? Did you fold the wings are did they come like that?

Just a little update on the progress of my USS Hornet.
I’ve just managed to get the 3 main parts (hull, deck and island) all glued together and hope to have new pictures up sometime this week.
I’ll have my Bradley completed soon and then will be able to completely focus on the Hornet.

hi kenny! yes its the kits aircraft, there are 6 swordfish and 6 fulmars, of each 4 are extended winged and 2 have folded wings off the sprue. im using the white ensign p/e set, that is just visable in the second pic on this, which has props, wheels and for the swordfish, struts and rigging

Here’s a new progress picture.

I’ve also gotten The Bradley finished that I was working on so the Hornet is my main project again.
Don’t think it will take me too much longer to complete her

Well looks like I hit a little rough water with the Hornet.
Forgot to seal the deck before masking for the lines and managed to pull the paint off a large area of the deck.
Looks like I’ll be repainting and weathering the deck now.
Plus over the weekend I managed have her roll over smacking the island. This reopened the crack between the top and bottom parts of the island along the back side.
Being in the back I don’t know it I’ll take the trouble to refill and paint it our not.
Another little snag I found was that the life rafts were to big to fit correctly on the hull under the island. Luckily I was able to over come this one easily by cutting the pieces down to size.
Anyway looks like I have a lot more work to do now.

Managed to get the deck repainted with 2 coats of deck blue. Turned out to be much easier then I thought. I was able to do it by hand with a large brush and just hid the brush marks with the wood grain.
Now I’ll just have to re weather it and remember to seal it before using tape.
Airwing is also coming along nicely.

That's good to hear, Bro...hey. what kind of tape do you use, mate? You might want to try the blue 3M lo-tack tape my friend, won't pull of the finish as easy...

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you on that.
I have a big roll of masking tape. The cheep kind you can find in most stores. (Hey just be glad I’m not using my camo duck tape. :-) )
It actually works pretty well as long as I remember to seal it first.
Anyway I got the weathering back done to the deck now and think it turned out better this time.
I’ll give it about a week to dry (oil paint) and then seal it and try the lines again.
EDIT: forgot to mention I’ll have pictures up soon. Would of posted them now but the batterys died again.

Very well, Jacob...glad to hear that things are looking better for you this time around mate...all things happen for a specific reason, my friend!

Looking forward to seeing this version of your Hornet, Jake!

Well I'm affraid I have to drop out of the campaign. The kit I choose is a little bit too difficult for me to finish in the time given.
Don't get this wrong: the campaign lenght was good, I just should have chosen a kit which wasn't so difficult
Sorry, I really would have liked to finish this campaign in honour of Garry.
