Jean-Luc thats a fantastic looking fighter. I can’t wait to see it finished.

I’ve finally got a little something done on the hornet.
I’ve sprayed the deck and did some weather on it.

This was my first tempt at weathering on a ship and don’t know if it turned out right or not.
You guys think it looks realistic?

I FINALLY got some pics up of the progress of my entry, DML's USS Saipan, 1/700 scale. Still got a LONG way to go!! This 1/700 PE is Killin' me!!! I'm still having a lot of fun with this build, though! Keep up the fantastic work, mates, and I'll talk to ya later!

Hard to tell, it's a very small pic!

Do you have a larger pic?

jean-luc you've got to show how you did your vac formed cockpit in greater detail-

Hi Baron!

I'm ashamed to say it was very easy I just heated a small plastic sheet (transparent packaging) over a candle flame and stretched it over the original part... that's all! I really thought vacuforming a small canopy part was a hard job but it is not! You should try it and you'll see how straightforward it is!

Jacob, Thanks for your kind words but the "Judy" isn't a fighter but was designed as dive bomber but was mainly used as reco aircraft. And to answer your question about the weathering of your ship, I think it looks pretty good!

Gunny, thanks for your support and the great work you do by leading this fantastic Campaign!

Hi Andy!
Progress looks good, mate!
How did the warpage problem work out?...and i'm glad that you're having fun with your entry, my friend, even though it's giving you a hard time, cuz that's what it's all about! Keep modeling, and thanks for the update!

Hey Gunny....

I'm going to get two birds with one stone this weekend. I'll have my Flattops entry done times 2 and get a preview of Gator's Paint Mask new line, "Aces Series" done. I'm doing Vraciu's F6F Hellcat from the Intrepid and Kepford's F4U Corsair (in 1/72 scale). They'll both be on flattop bases. I'm also doing Gabreski's P-47....but that's USAAF . Photos as soon as they are available.

Hi Andy

Vacforms can be very tricky and I am glad you managed to go this far with this one - a good learning curve , right?
She looks great, but I might say that the colours look a little off - what brand are you using for FAA?
I know it is not the same brand, but check this:

1/48 scale Supermarine Attacker

See some details, like the drilled air entries near the tail, colours...
I think you are doing a good job - and I hope this helps a little improving your Attacker

Hi Skipper,
The brands of paint are Xtracylic dark sea gray and Tamiya sky. The colours do look more like the Supermarine Attacker in the link, but my camera skills and lighting (photo taken under 2 spotlights ) do seem to have made it look more blue than it really is. I am getting a new camera soon so hopefully my photography skills will improve .
The air holes are drilled but i will open them up a little more as they don't seem as holey ( is that a word :-) ) as the links one.
I'm afraid it is not a vac-form kit but a resin and white metal one, i think a vac-form kit would have been easier :-) .

How did the warpage problem work out?

Hi Gunny,
The warpage after a lot of sanding, coercing, re scribing and swearing finally paid off as it does look a lot better then it originally did when i first put it together.
Thanks for looking, Andy (++)

EDIT, plane has now gone on the backburner as the decals are totaly unusable. Need time (and a break ) to think of an alternative as no A.M decal set is available.

Perhaps a tad

However, I thought the brave participants of this campaign might need a short break from the ardous modelling. I don't know how many pieces your models consist of, but this crazy fellow has put together more than 200,000 bricks of lego!

Check it out! http://www.ezprezzo.com/crazypics/lego_aircraft_carrier.html

Cheers!

Just a little update on my Hornet.
I’m getting around to finishing up the hull and have just added the black stripe and chipped paint. After everythings good and dry I’ll hit it with a gloss coat and add the decals and then finish the hull.

I’m also still getting the island puttyed together.

Gunny I’m going to take some more pictures of it after finishing up the decals on the hull and hopefully have the island ready to paint.
I’ll be dry fitting everything together for them.

Ran out of paint for my modern Armor campaign entre so I’m back to the hornet for awhile.

Its a M2A0 Bradley during the Gulf War. It’s the Academy kit and has the interior for the troop compartment.
I have some pictures of it in my gallery if you want to see it. But the pictures are a little old so theres more done on it now.

Ok Gunny....Day 1 of the triple header. I got the cockpits together and detailed (with some help :-) ). The fuselages are glued together and ready to be sanded. I should be able to put paint on them tomorrow.

hi all! just to let you guys know i've not fallen asleep on this one. i've been doing whats known as "piddling" on this kit i,e. rather than having a big blast on it i've been just doing 15-20 minutes in between other stuff.however it struck me today its beginning to look like a flattop. the flight deck isnt stuck on yet but i should get quite a bit of work done on her today

Hey Phil!

I "piddle" alot meself lately, (sometimes not just with modeling!) :-)...No, but seriously, mate, I know what you mean. I do the same, as I usually (as most of us crazy modelers do) have many other projects happening at the same time.

Progress is progress though, just keep pluggin' away at 'er! Personally, I've spent most of the day Saturday handpainting deck markings on my entry... My eyes are taxed, but I can't go any further until this step is done...I gravitate off to working on the airwing from time to time to break up the monotony...But I'm still having a ball with my model, and I hope you are to, cuz' that what it's all about, maties! Keep up the good work and keep the reports coming in!

with the massive white ensign p/e set i'm putting on piddling is the best approach,
one question now, is it easier to paint the red bottom first or the grey sides? i,m thinking which one might be better to mask due to the curves of the hull

Phil this was the first 1 piece hull I painted but what I did paint the Base color of the hull and then mask and paint the red. if the tape bends up a little on the bottom when you go abound curves just add a piece of tape over the lifted area that only comes down a small way. As long as there not to far off they can be covered when you paint the black line.

Ahoy, Phil!

As with anything else, everyone has their own way of doing things, and with this, it tis the same...here is my method, mate, see what you think.

Painting the lower hull is the FIRST thing that I do, after it has been assembled, puttied, and primed. I usually will mask off the upper section first, spray your red bottom. I let the paint cure a couple of days, and then mask off the red bottom, and shoot the topside ( I also use the blue masking tape that's lo-tack, less chance of an oopsie ) If your ship also has a black waterline division stripe now is the time to get this on while you still have half of the boat masked off. Like I said, Bro, this is how I do it, and someone else will most definitely do theirs differently...take it for what it's woth, mate, and have at it!
Gunny
