Made good progress on USS Columbus over the weekend. After a lot of trials doing the priming (and sanding and then re-priming and then re-sanding and then re-priming.......................

) I finally went to painting. I got the lower half done in hull red, and the next step is to mask off the bottom and paint the upper half black.
After that, there's only a few finish details (add and extra scope and radar installation) and then the decals and she'll be finished.

Hi Tom!
I know... it's a question of focus!

You'll amost done - and I know that the usual craftmanship will be employed on your Columbus

I gotta say it's a whole lot less involved "part-wise" compared to the Missouri!!! Seems like I ought to be adding some quad 40s or something :-) :-) :-)

Hi Tom
The fact that it is a far less complicated model, doesn't mean that you will employ a less care in making it

That's why, I know it's going to be a good one... ok, ok, less "flashy" than the Mighty Mo

I'm in the home stretch. I've finally finished the painting, and next step is to do a clear gloss coat, apply the decals, and then re-spray with a matt coat.
The shrouded prop is all done, leaving only the scratchbuilding of one additional scope and adding the bridge wind screen.
I'm also going to have a couple of brass nameplates made up to finish the display. When I'm finished my son will have a matched pair, representing both boats that he served on.

Finally finished Revell's U-Boot VIIc (1/72). Pics were taken at my brother's home, who asked me for making that model for him.

Well, she's nowhere nearly as exciting as Kenny's entry, but USS Columbus is finally complete. Here are some shots, and as a bonus, I've included a shot of both Boise AND Columbus, so it's one from each campaign.
Tom
Hi Tom
Congratulations on your USS Columbus

It's good to finish our entries and it is a good touch to include the USS Boise too - two models with two years appart!
Once again Bravo Zulu!
Ok guys, you have seen most of the enlisted men on this wonderfull campaign to finish their entries... So... to the late/slow finishers:
C'mon and make that effort - we are One Month and a Week away from the end (and we will have NO extensions!!!)
Keep up your work and keep us posted

Hi Nemanja
You should apply gloss coat first, apply the decals, another gloss coat, washes and then apply the matt coat!
This way the decals will be sealed and will not show any silvering and the washes are better controlable over a gloss coat.
Hope this helps
Keep up the good work

Ahoy Tom,
Beautiful little subs there mate! After seeing these little beauties and Kenny's
sub.......you guys are giving me the urge to try a modern sub at some point.
Well in the meantime, a few u-boats to finish......back to the yards.
Cheers,

Thanks, Joe. The Dragon 1/350 Hampton is a good kit to build, but it does require a number of fixes to make it accurate. Luckily none of these are really too difficult, and if you love doing scratch work, bringing these up to spec isn't hard.
Overall they're actually pretty simple, and look good on the shelf!

Ahoy, maties!
We actually had about 38 seconds this morning where the sun actually peaked through the eternal winter cloud cover here in PA, and I took the opportunity to grab my gear and entry to snap a couple shots...may not get the opportunity again for a while!
This is my
replacement (

) DDD2 entry, the USS Lionfish, and although not as statley as my original build (which experienced an untimely demise at about 95% completion~I would tell the story again, but it is a bit of an embarrasment

...those that know the story can chuckle amongst yourselves! ), I still wanted to complete the campaign and this kit fit the time frame that I had left perfectly...photo's aren't the greatest, but for now, will have to do for a documentation!
Cheers,
~Gunny

Yes and no, Ion...same kit, different state of build on two seperate kits...I'm only up to first paint on the Sharkhunters build...are you a member of Sharkhunters? Great bunch of people, all with the same love of submarines!
