I got a little more work done to the hornet.
I’ve got all of the vertical pieces on the hull and spent the supper bowl filling seems.
I still have to sand it and add some more putty.

Here are some pictures of it.

Still need to sand most of the putty down and add a little bit more afew places.
The hanger deck is extremely unlevel. I think I’m going to have to do a little more work then I originally expected with this one.

Yep, that's the same beast I'm working on. I must say you did better with your putty than I am. I managed to get it all over the place and still not fill the seams all the way in some spots. Have you put on the side piece on the right side of the hull just aft of the foward hangar? When I put mine on it wouldn't fit. I had to shave a bit off the forward end.
I take it by the color you're painting her as she was during the Doolittle raid?
She's looking good so far.

Thanks Rodger.
Do you mean the long side piece in the middle? Part 14 I think.
I got it on without having to cut anything but had a hard time. It fit perfectly when I test fitted it but after putting on the glue I discovered there’s apparently one special way it fits.
It does still have a crack between that part and the main part of the hull that’s a bit wider in the middle so shaving it was probably a good thing.
As for the putty you probably made less then a mess then I did. I’m using a half dry tube of Testors white putty. The tip it comes out of is relatively small and I can no longer squeeze a lot out at a time. Pluses what does come out doesn’t want to stick to anything.
I’ve now got little white balls of the stuff every where. Still need to add some more to the seams as well.
As for the color I think you’re right. I’m building her as she was during the battle of midway. I’m not positive but I believe it’s the same paint job as the Doolittle raid.

i've literally just started my ark royal half an hour ago (at time of posting) theres quite a lot of flash to clean up, but this kit has a date of 1966 stamped on the underside of the flight deck so we're the same age! got a couple of watertight doors on from the WEM photo etch set i'm using, and i'm already enjoying this one

Hey guys. I've just been doing some research on modern USN carrier decks colors after the wear and tear and found a reall neat photo of the USS Carl Vinson enroute to Hawaii for the 50th anniversary of V-J Day in 1995. Who can i.d. the aircraft on board?

Three B-25s. a couple of F4U Corsairs, a TBF Avenger, I think a F4F Wildcat, a Grumman amphib, Goose?, don't know the others.

I think that blue twin engine on the port side may be an F7F Tigercat. I concur with everything else ROdger found. I have't a clue what the little bitty blue one is in the center furthest forward. Only comment is that the Wildcat never carried the silver yellow wing scheme on a carrier. I had Tom research that for me as I wanted to use wildcats for my Lex and had to bounce back to Buffalos

I'm moving along pretty well on my Lady Lex. I'm opting initially for painting on the yellow stripes. I've painted most of the flight deck yellow. Laid out 3 / 16 inch wide strips of tape from stem to stern and using Lenny's L-E-X masks am on the verge of spraying the mahogany deck stain on her. Finished assembling the stack and superstructure assemblies with the 8 " cannon and all that resin and PE.. I'm just trying to decide if i want to attach all the AA guns and the PE personel nets along side then spray the sides of the hull and all this stuff first and tape it off, or do the deck tape it off add the parts and then paint them. The only issue here is which scenario means less handling

Here you go guys.
1 - Texan, 1 - Wildcat, 1 - Avenger, 2 - Corsairs, 2 - Gooses (or Geese) and 3 Mitchells. The other aircraft is modern, so beats me. Looks like th Fokker the Golden Knights use as their jump plane.
Kenny - aka "Lenny" (what's up with that Steve?)

The large plane is a Grumman Albatross. Not a modern plane they were used as air sea rescue in Korea and Vietnam by USAF.

Steve the "little bitty blue one on the center line" is the Wildcat. (shows you how little they were.) The one with silver wings is the Texan. The one you thought was a Tigercat is the other "Goose" mentioned. Viewed from above like that it's hard to see that's what it is.

your eyes are a lot better than mine Rodger. I'll take your word, can't see it for the Texan or the Wildcat but with the glare and the angles you are probably correct

Umm guys is it just me or do we have 2 sets of galleries for this campaign?
I was looking around the site and noticed that in the gallery under the main campaign page are the galleries for progress and completed pictures.
Also down the page a little if you click on the link for 2006 galleries there appears to be a 3rd gallery for the campaign with deferent pictures.
Just wandering if it was a mistake or if I missed something.

Hey Jake!
No your not not mistaken', Bro! I really don't know what's up, but I must ask all of the entrants to please use the original albums that Rui set up for us, and only upload pic's to those two gallery's...if you have uploaded to the mysterious second gallery, Rui (Skipper) may be able to move these pics for us...Hey Skip, if you're out there, are you aware of this, and what's the deal, my friend? Can you move these pic's and maybe delete this second album so others do not upload to this one??
Gunny
And thanks, Jacob, for bringing this to my attention, Mate!

No problem gunny.
I noticed it when looking up the modern armor gallery and figured something was wrong.
Also as for the USS Hornet I’ve spent a few more hours sanding and adding more putty. Even ripped out the big tube of Squadron green putty.
I think the seams will all be fixed in a few more days.

hi all! here's something for you, on my ark royal i've had the bright idea of drilling out all the portholes, then brushing kleer across the inside to represent glass (its the way i sometimes do aircraft dials) what do you guys think about this? its not too late for me to fill in the holes i've done, but i think it should look o.k.

Progress pic:
The deck's decalling is almost done, just left around 3 or 4 cm of red/white strips on it.
Phew! How it was hard to put those small and thin things there!.

Hi guy's the Graf Zeppelin is starting to look like a carrier at last.

And a close up of the Island.

I hope you like it so far... Railings add around search light platform and the covered railing (name?) added around the bridge area, also ladders and doors fitted. Also theres a engineless Me-262 on the hanger deck but unable to get a picture due to the small size of the openning.
Ciao

Hey guys. I got the base colors on the Nimitz's deck. I found several photos of Nimitz class carriers where they patched the flight deck coating. On one photo, they repaired about 1/3 of the deck. So, I masked of the deck and reproduced the photo. I then airbrushed the tire markings at the 3 wire. I've also masked of the catapult tracks and airbrushed them steel.
The next step is to mask off the deck markings and paint those. The only decals I'll use is around the elevators.
