Ahoy, mates!
Today brings us the official start date of another new MSW campaign, the Military Small Cratf~Mosquito Fleet Campaign, so grab yer glue, kits, and references, and get building! Lets make this another exciting group build, with TONS of participation, lots of talk, and sharing of in progress photos!
As we have done with great success in the past, please use this thread to post your WIP posts, phots, questions, and such, to help keep the campaign organized, and everyone on the same page...it's so much easier to gather all in one thread and lets us enjoy each others builds all the more!

I'll provide two important hotlinks here to make things a bit easier, one to the official guidelines, and the other to our official campaign gallery, which is divided into WIP and finished sections.

Full steam ahead! Yearrrggghhhh!

Alrighty then Shipmates,
I'll be the first to offically declare ! I started cutting plastic today on the 1/400th scale Heller S-Boat. May not be cutting edge model, but we'll see if I can actually make it look semi- presentable. Obviously, the scale fits in with my Flotilla of Subs from the same yards. We'll see what can be accomplished with generic 1/400th etched ship fittings.
Once I get along far enough to have something to show, we'll present it.

Arrrgggh there Matey's......what are the rest of you up to ?

Ahoy Bruce,

On my end studied some pictures of where the hull meets the deck. There is
a bar running the length of the hull like a bumper.....don't know exactly what it is
called but the one molded on the Airfix E boat is aweful.....so I sanded everything
down and will replace with styrene half round.

That is it for now,

Joe

Going through all my father in law's photos of his PCF and asking for shots of the pilot house from other swifties. Maybe, I'll be able to actually finish this one unlike the other 3 campaigns

Ahoy Shipmates

I have opened the kit box.

Reviewed the hull sides and deck and started preparing them plus the stand the ship sits on. The stand os prepared and cleaned up.

I have a feeling that I am going to be doing a lot more sanding and cleaning up of parts with my Airfix E-Boat.

Regards

Ahoy Sean,

Well your not the only one who is going to do some sanding and cleaning up. I too,
chose to model the AIRFIX E-Boot. Somehow I always get attracted to older kits
that need some special attention. I could of chosen the newer REVELL S-Boot
but then.....so I'll start with the harder of the builds.

According to many, the shape of the bow is off but this I will not touch, rather I
will spend some extra time on cleaning and refining some of the parts.

Here are some of the areas that need special attention, that I picked up on from
photos and research that I intend to fix without going too crazy, as I am doing
on the U-35conversion.

1. Deck area at the bow needs a lot more detail than the kit represents.
2. The wheelhouse lacks a starboard door and the roof details need refining.
3. The mine racks and mines are grossly out of scale and are misrepresented
on the kit.
4.The torpedo tubes need to be moved forward as they are too far back.
5. Torpedo tubes could use a little detailing.
6. Assorted detailing here and there.

Not sure yet whether it will be full hull or waterline.

Overall not a bad kit considering its age and with a little patience I am sure it
can be turned into a little beauty.

Great reference at prinzeugen.com

I also have S-boote Historie et Collection series on order....great reference.

Anyways happy building and have a great time!

Later,
Joe

Just get one and only one dusty Revell S-100 off LHS shelf. I think I did a pretty good job on supporting LHS. Not open the box yet (try to see how long I can resist the temptation... ) ... may start to work on it this Friday. Also saw a British and a U.S. PT in LHS. Both are by Revell in 1:72 scale but in level 3 rather than level 5 for S-100 and half the S-100 price. However the images of rough and bulky MG hesitate me from buying them. Any comments on these 2 PT? I also saw a Chinese compan (Minihobby?) offer the same British PT with same scale as Revell offer but has much bigger box than the Revell one. Wonder what's extra in there.

Sounds good Lim!
Do you get the Squadron flyer? If I'm not mistaken, they have some figgies on sale now that just may fit the bill for your build, my friend...I'll check when I get home, unless there's someone else out there with a current edition close?

Ahoy mates,
Here are some photos of my Airfix E-boat build.

The wheelhouse roof was detailed and lookout positions were added
with brass rod and styrene also starboard door was cut open.

The kit supplied captain looks real good but his right arm was repositioned
so as to correctly rest on the lookout brace

The mine racks and torpedo part locator slots were filled as I will be
rebuilding the racks and moving the torpedo racks forwards.

The port and starboard drive shaft locators were filled as they will need to
be moved further out towards the edge of the hull.

The deck at the bow received some scratchbuild parts as there is a lot of
missing details pertaining to the windlass and anchor retrival mechanism.

Hope you all enjoy,

Joe

Hey all,
New to the site and I thought I would jump right in with the group build. I want to build a 1/350 Kriegsmarine F Lighter. Does that count as a pt type ship? I hope it does, I have never built an armored barge and thought it would be a great learning process for me.

no, i'm not on the squadron flyer, but thanks for the heads up, i'll go check it up on their website. i haven't decided which navy to do them in, but Malaysian Navy is good choice since i saw the actual decommissioned boat at Melaka. or there is the possibility of doing it in a 'what if' singapore navy marking...choices...
currently very busy this week at the National Band Competition in Singapore(I'm a band director) and going crazy. those who did high school band will surely understand.
will report for duty this weekend gunny.

I will be working on this model (German S-Boat Schnellboot
S-100) for the campaign. I like the looks of this boat and from what I found so far, plenty of info so I can make a good show of it.

Ahoy Sean,

Thanks, having a lot of fun with this build; not overly complex.

Making some really good progress.

I am scratchbuilding some small details and refining many other.

The kit itself is really not that bad except for some over sized details
and a few inaccuracies but there are many photos available to help
with the corrections.

I did have to do some major sanding in the area of where the upper hull
met the lower hull as the two parts were slight unaligned.

Could have made it waterline but I finally decided to go full hull and now
I have to reposition the drive shafts....port and starboard as they are too
far in.

I know that the campaign runs for more than a year but I am speed building
this one for an upcoming show/contest in the USA , later this month.

And how is your build coming along?

Some photos soon?

Cheers,
Joe
